en Every year, legislators override the statute. It's a serious issue for our members. We want to ensure the benefit will be there.

en We're addressing it. In our newsletter I urged members, particularly members in the Northeast Kingdom to contact their legislators. We very rarely (ask people to) contact their legislators.

en To sell it, you've got to believe in it, and we believe in it. When we go to St. Paul, or Washington, to talk to legislators about issues we care about, the more members we represent, the more confidence the legislators have that they'll have support if they respond to our views.

en Putting limits in the statute is not enough. It's too easy for the General Assembly to override those limits any time they please.

en The commission will remain determined to ensure full compliance with the March 2004 decision. The commission is obliged under treaty rules to ensure the proper application of the competition law to the benefit of consumers and companies, and not to the benefit of any individual company.

en This issue transcends party lines. Legislators of all political stripes agree that we must curb the spread of HIV and AIDS, which has skyrocketed in our communities. The governor is considering how best to achieve this goal and welcomes input from these legislators.

en Last year we raised $140,000; but our goal this year is to raise $250,000 to ensure that the neediest and most deserving students get what they need to graduate and become successful community members.

en It's inevitable in the short term that legislators will look at this issue. If you look overseas, when the device reaches a tipping point, you start to hear rumblings among legislators. Pretty soon we're going to hit that tipping point in North America.

en We want the members to have a vote if they feel it's important. If they perceive it as a benefit, we want them to have it. Without our members, we wouldn't be anything. We rely on our members. We rely on our volunteers. We have some people doing community service hours. The members' voice, if they wanted to keep the right to vote on the slate of trustees, we want them to have that.

en So many times, legislators have said this is a press issue. No, it's not. It's a public's right to know issue.

en The defendants are relying on a statute of limitations that applied to the Memphis board of adjustment that went out of existence 35 years ago. We believe that statute does not apply. The Tennessee legislature specifically enacted a 60 day statute of limitations that applies to boards and commissions and that statute of limitations should apply to this board.

en The role of the European Commission is to ensure proper application of EU competition rules to benefit consumers and companies in Europe, not for the benefit of one company.

en Our policies and procedures with respect to claims reviews are designed to ensure that insurance premiums remain affordable for our members. It's important that we issue policies based on accurate information filed by the member.

en Its basically a pay-to-play system. We need to ensure that every citizen has an opportunity to have their voice heard with their legislators and the Legislature.
