Mark and Jim are true visionaries in the Internet space, each having built and run extremely successful companies from the ground up. They are both savvy managers and possess the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that has always been the heart of our company.

Yahoo! in our opinion is the hands-down leader in the Internet portal space. It is well run, extremely profitable and its awesome business model stands head and shoulders above most Internet companies.

Mark Rowen (1956-)

Mark plays by his own rules. As downtown was faced with competition from the suburbs, Mark has hung in there. He's transformed his business using modern tools. He has a real entrepreneurial spirit.

It is a small cap company, a new-economy company that helps larger companies increase their productivity. Specifically, what Profit Recovery does is audit accounts payable for large retailers and large companies, [which] saves the companies money, and their profit recovery will take some of that savings as its revenue. It's moving into the Internet space to audit online transactions. It's trading at about $30. We've got a target of $50 on this company.

Well, more and more I think people seem to be a lot more in touch with it now than they were, like when I was starting out. You know, I was on the tail end of the sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll thing when I got rolling (laughs). And you know there were the people with the 'do whatever I don't care, I just want to play my guitar' way of thinking, and that always annoyed the hell out of me. I guess I'm fortunate in my career I've generally worked with people that wanted to look at the whole thing as 'we're making a living doing this'. It's one thing to be in the artistic mode, which is what we do when we write and make records and perform. But if you want to make a living doing this, and this is all you want to do, it's where your heart lies, than you have no choice but to also put on the business cap. In this day and age, especially with the Internet. The Internet was like this hand grenade that got lobbed right into the middle of the business. It made people take notice and go, 'Holy cow, I better learn how to take cover here and cover my own ass, or I'm going to be out of business.' Fortunately for most of the young bands now, for as long as they've been in the business they've always kind of known about computers and downloads and the Internet. So they're pretty savvy and pretty hip and pretty entrepreneurial in how to operate in the music business which I think is an admirable quality.

James has entrepreneurial DNA combined with operational experience at both small and large companies. He brings insight into the sectors that are ripe for new startups, and also knowledge about the most effective ways to build successful consumer/Internet businesses in today's environment. We're delighted that he's part of our team.

It is an honor to take the reins of this great company from one of the industry's true visionaries.

The company, back in 1997, decided they needed to start experimenting with the Internet, not knowing how successful it would be, or frankly, even knowing what it would take to start a successful Internet business, ... It tried to figure out what it might need in the future, so the company put together a very simple site that sold music CDs. It was an easy category that didn't require a lot of investment.

They are a very entrepreneurial company and reminded me of my early days working at Mark Twain.

It's a great American story and I think it shows the entrepreneurial spirit, that the entrepreneurial opportunity in America is alive and well,

I think of myself as entrepreneurial as well, so it was inspiring to hear from someone with an entrepreneurial spirit that succeeded further down the line.

To grow a lot more, Eric has to find a way to multiply himself. He needs to create not just managers out of his workers, but people with the same entrepreneurial spirit. If Eric can't solve that problem, he will be limited by the number of hours he can be in one place at one time in a day.

James Collins (1973-)

We moved from a CD-ROM publishing company into a pure-Internet entertainment company. We are much more successful on the Internet side than we ever were on the CD-ROM side.

We like the fact that they are constantly developing novel marketing concepts. And we like the charismatic, but somewhat off-beat management team. When small businesses like these are incorporated into a big company they are usually killed - because you make people managers and not entrepreneurs. It is this entrepreneurial talent that Unlimited is trying to protect.

We think the Internet is tremendously profound. It will continue to have an effect on the global economy over the next five-to-10 years. But there's no way that it is a large enough opportunity to support the 400 companies that have gone public. And I think if you look back in history at different emerging industries, we've often had this feeling that the PCs for example are going to change the world. All you have to do is buy a PC company and you're safe. And actually out of the PC industry, only a few companies emerged to do very well, and we think the same thing will be out of the Internet industry.
