en He's been tremendous for us. We never even thought that he could be near as good as he's been. He's a big part of the reason we're in the playoffs right now. For us to be as successful, we need him.

en Mel told me that he'd always be interested in staying around. I talked to the Boss about it. He thought it was a good idea. Mel thought it was a good idea. Everybody basically felt: Let's continue the relationship. Mel did a tremendous job here for a long time and provides a lot of valuable insight. So it's nice to have him as part of the support system as we move forward.

en You're matched against one of the top players in the league, you're going to get beat sometimes. I thought he did a tremendous job in some situations. On that one, he stumbled and gave up that play. The other one, I thought he had the ball. Steve Smith, give him credit. That was a tremendous play on his part.

en It's pretty sensational, ... The interesting thing is he always loved soccer, and now he's the big cheese in basketball. I'm really pleased for him, and I think he's really good at it. The best part is that the team has not done well recently, so he can only go up. He has every reason to be successful.

en J.P., part of bringing him over was because I thought he was a good catcher defensively also. He does not have the strongest throwing arm in baseball. But he throws well enough. The other part of his game was really good. And I thought his offense was better than what people were giving him credit for. ... Those two guys together, I think they compliment each other. I think they're good for each other. So they're both going to play a lot.

en For the most part, I was very proud of our effort. Before the game, we talked a little bit about having tremendous respect for this program, but we couldn't let that become a fear factor. I thought our guys did a pretty good job of understanding that concept.

en It was a great win against a good basketball team and it really bodes well for our program. I thought we had tremendous focus and great effort on the part of each and every one of the guys.

en We have a distinct disadvantage, being the fourth game in five nights. But we're playing good; they're playing good. When it really counts, if things were to remain the same as they are today, and we're successful and they're successful in the playoffs, we wouldn't play 'em when it counts for two more months. Things could change a lot by then.

en It's always good memories coming back here. Being part of the 50-win season with Hubie (Brown), the change from being one of the worst teams in the NBA to helping them make the playoffs ... I think the playoffs are expected here now.

en McCarthy seems to be the key right now. This kid is doing a tremendous job out of the bullpen. I thought about [keeping him in]. The way he's throwing the ball, I thought about it. Right now I have my closer. I'm not going to overuse [McCarthy] for no reason.

en We were emotionally up-and-down during the preseason. We started out 4-1 and felt really good, but then we ran into some adversity by losing four in a row. The girls started questioning themselves, and a lot of the freshmen thought they were going to be part of a successful team when they signed on.

en When I was saying the playoffs that's what we thought it was going to take for me to get back healthy. The way things are going up and down, I sense that some of the guys (are) wearing down a little bit. It really puts things ahead of schedule. I'm a key part of this team. We have a lot of good things going on out there.

en The reason in the playoffs that defensive-oriented teams are successful is because the longer you play someone, you become more comfortable with how guys are getting their shots and what they're doing. You have the ability to lock down more from a defensive standpoint.

en We just didn't take care of business. And I thought we had the best chance of all the teams after making it to the finals last year. This year was just a different season. Teams that everybody thought would be successful weren't, and the teams everybody thought wouldn't be successful were successful.
