It looks like the off-mall numbers look really good, and the mall-based numbers still look to be tough out there. To say this is a trend we've seen over the last year is selling it short. It's been a trend we've seen for quite some time. The off-price guys offer better prices to consumers.

We see a possible rally this month as investors take advantage of yields at these levels. We may test the 4.5 percent level again this month.

That's imposing a ceiling of sorts on any rally. But the good news is that at the end of next week, tax-loss related selling may abate dramatically.

A lot of the reason for the rally is that people think that everything's on the table. You saw a knee-jerk reaction this morning, with people selling on an initial reaction to the news, Europe being down so much and some weak earnings, like Kraft.

You're seeing some selling now, some consolidation maybe, but I'd be cautious of that. The market's been very resilient. Investors have been very quick to buy if they get a little good news.

People were worried about how the auction would go, but with the lengthening of the index at the end of the month and the global flattening trend, investors just didn't want to stay away. That enticed investors.

Earnings have been coming in by-and-large at better-than-expected levels. But a lot of that has been priced in, and so you're seeing some selling on the news. But the profit-taking is short-term. Longer term, we should continue to see strong economic reports that support the rally, and we should start to see analysts' estimates increase for the fourth quarter.
