en I was very nervous. When I first met him and walked up to him, everyone was telling me to be sure and stay in character so he can enjoy it, and I got up to him and I froze. I patted him on the shoulder and I said, 'God bless you, Mr. Knotts.' But we talked and he was very kind. We got our picture made and I got an autograph. He was a real gentleman, very cordial, very humble. I was very sad when I heard he had passed away. I always dreaded that day, because he's my hero.

en I named it the Zen Fencing Academy for my hero, a gentleman by the name of Joe Odom, who sadly passed away last year. He was my role model as a fencer and as an instructor. He founded a club in Pittsburgh, Fencers For Fun, as a method of keeping kids off the streets. He always came to (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) to help us out because we didn't have a coach. We always referred to him as the 'Zen master of fencing'. He was that wise old Pat Morita kind of character.

en a great gentleman, a real Southern gentleman and throughout our dealings with him he was always gracious and kind, and I think in these later years he wanted to end on a high moral note and end by telling the truth ... so we miss him.

en Every time I've made a movie over the years . . . there was a lot of confusion between who I am and who the character in the movie is. In this picture, there was no way anybody could make that association. The lead character (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is this gorgeous, troubled, highly sensitive character. en He advised me to stay humble and do your job. If you do what the team asks you to do you're going to have a job for a long time. And not only that, we just talked for a long time. That just shows you the kind of person he is because I came across a few veterans who wouldn't even say hello.
