All five teams we've played against have run a lot of blitzes, and we're pretty sure Missouri will blitz us, too.

He played about the way I would have thought; you talk about a baptism in this league. They bring the ranch; they blitz and they blitz and they blitz and it paid dividends. We were sacked six times today. It's pretty hard to be efficient when that happens.

We're going to work hard to get it corrected because you have to get a rush. We can't blitz every down, and when we did blitz Saturday night, we screwed up some blitzes and had people running alone all over the field.

But when they do blitz, I noticed that they're really precise. There's not a lot of wasted motion. They cut the corners real quick; they don't take any blitzes out too wide. When they run their stunts, it's the same things. I haven't seen any team run stunts and blitzes quite like them.

[Four of the 13 Patriots on the injury list didn't make the trip to Pittsburgh and are definitely out of today's game. Vinatieri has two punts to his credit in the NFL, both pooch kicks . . . Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is tied for the league lead in sacks with three. The Steelers blitz often, with players coming from a variety of positions. The Patriots often keep a running back in to pick up blitzes, but tight ends are asked to monitor the blitz and, of course, quarterback Tom Brady and his receivers are charged with exploiting blitzes when they see them. ''They've had a bunch of secondary sacks here in these first couple of games,] Belichick said. ''Even if you blitz a lot out of the secondary, it's still only eight, 10 times a game. There's just not that many opportunities. Polamalu has hit them all. ... Staley told the paper. ''I don't know how much. I can't make that decision, but I'll go out and see where I'm at.

Friday's and Saturday's practices will include more 'O' versus 'D' drills. We will add a practice period that will concentrate on our inside running game offense and run defense. They're still blitzes that every team does. They just do it more than anybody probably. So it's not like I haven't seen the blitzes. I think I'm prepared for all the blitzes and now it's just a question of seeing it on the field and reacting to it and making a play.

That is pretty amazing. Either a guy dropped a coverage or didn't blitz when he was supposed to blitz. Each guy looks at himself when that happens.

I thought both teams started pretty well. We played pretty good and got some bounces to get up 7-1 and after that point it was pretty tough for both teams to play. The game was pretty much decided after the first period. From there on everybody was kind of just playing for some pride.

Once we made our ID, we were stuck in it. I could see things happening with linebackers moving or with a blitz coming, and we wouldn't be able to change it. Now we can call it and get the whole line to move left or right or pinch. We can pick up blitzes so much better this way.

We've had comments from people we've played -- that play was the one that really scared them. Teams blitz a lot, and if you catch that thing and there's one mistake by the defense, it's all over.

It's a shame that one of the teams had to lose. Butternut played their hearts out. The last time we played them we beat them at the buzzer. These are balanced teams with our loss of (Randall) Walker. We're pretty even teams. It's tough to play two double-overtime games in a row.

We kind of got away [from the blitz] with [Tim] Lewis here. We didn't blitz like we did in the past. LeBeau brought it back. You don't know where the blitz is coming from, and that helps.
