en Kirby was one of the best guys and best teammates I've ever been associated with. I never saw the guy unhappy one time and he tried to make everybody else feel the same way.

en I think I can speak for my teammates and for you fans that we all feel that we were the luckiest people on the planet to get to play and watch Kirby Puckett.

en We never met Kirby, we didn't know Kirby, but you feel like you know him. He was part of our lives, with going to games.

en I remember him when I was with Baltimore. When Kirby came up to home plate, he was so doggone dangerous. He could take you out in left field. He could take you out in right field. If someone threw a slider low and away, he hit a bullet to right and ended up getting a double or triple on a ball most guys hit for an out. If you brought the ball up and in, he'd turn on you. I want to make sure that's the Kirby Puckett we have in Minnesota in 1991.

en I?m just trying to do a little more talking to the guys and assuring them I?m with them regardless, mistakes or no mistakes. I feel like it?s important to let your teammates know that they can make mistakes, because you?re definitely gonna make them. We feel like we can make mistakes and live with them if they?re aggressive mistakes. I just talk to my squad as much as I can and just try to be there for them because that?s what they do for me.

en Kirby's my friend. He was my favorite player because of the way he played. Kirby had all that energy, and was flamboyant. He carried a big smile. I called Kirby a natural leader.

en 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. In recruiting, I don't ever feel like all of a sudden guys are now jumping to come to Florida. You still have to work hard and do a good job of evaluating and making sure you get guys who you feel would be best fit for the program and fit in well with teammates.

en I have a lot of good memories about Kirby. When he used to get a base hit, he'd throw his bat and it'd be flying all over the field. He was a unique player. We need some more players in this age and time coming in the big leagues that play like Kirby.

en Now I'm against the Dodgers, but I feel nothing different because I'm going to face new guys, not former teammates. (Guys like) Jeff Kent. It's not the same guys, so I don't really feel like I'm facing the Dodgers. It's different.

en When you've got as many guys as we have getting significant playing time during the playoffs, it makes you feel like a starter and part of the system. They're counting on you. You don't want to let your teammates down, let the coaches down or let the organization down.

en I'm sure there are a lot of guys who are unhappy with it. Some feel like they've been here for 20 years and now this is what you get. It's a trust thing.

en Some guys might change things up, but some guys don't. Look at Phil Mickelson. He's virtually all risk, all the time. If you're unhappy with the way you played, what's the point?

en Simply put, you believe that things or people make you unhappy, but this is not accurate. You make yourself unhappy.

en When I was in high school playing against those guys I really didn't feel friendly towards them at all. I tried to make myself think I hated Unionville at the time, and there was definitely a lot of trash talking. You run into those guys all the time. It's pretty important to have those bragging rights so you can walk with your head a little higher. But now that I'm out of school and you see those guys there's no hate there. I have a lot of respect for them.

en It's been a long road back here, a lot of questions about whether I was going to be able to make it. [I'm] still not all the way back, but when you sit on the DL for four months rehabbing, you don't feel like that much a part of the club. Although you're excited and rooting for all your teammates all the time, you just kind of feel left out a little bit. Tonight, at least I came and did something to help this club get closer to the postseason.
