There's so many good ordtak

There's so many good schools. We don't put much stock into that stuff. It's nice, but I tell the kids that it's the last ranking that counts.

This is really a nice compliment to our previous ranking with Consumers Digest, where that ranking relied heavily on an outside source looking at us. This ranking uses a lot of input from current students who are living the SUU educational experience.

Right now, I think our guys know how good they can be. It's not the ranking at the beginning that counts, but certainly with the game at Utah and this one, I don't think you should be dropping spots.

Lute Olson (1934-)

Division II schools will give four kids who play the same position $1,500. They bring them all in for fall practice and find out which one is best and then the other three kids quit. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness. Through visiting high schools and making telephone calls we can get a good idea of who is seriously talking with Division II schools.

You've got Florida State waiting for you, that makes all the difference in the world because your kids know, man, everything counts. Meeting time counts. Walkthroughs count. Everything counts, because if you're not ready, you're going to get beat.

They're nice kids to coach. They work hard. They hit their spots. They don't try to strike everybody out. They got good stuff.

The ranking early was nice, but it ended up hurting us a little bit because our kids thought they were the No. 1 team and didn't realize how hard they were going to have to work to win basketball games.

His counts got cleaner. He started with an inconsistent command, behind in counts. He got better as the game went on. There's better there, but that's winning without your best stuff early and then tightening up as you go along.

In Oakland, it was purely a matter of command; he didn't have his good stuff. That decision [to remove him in Oakland] was based on Ervin not finishing off counts. Tonight it was just the opposite. He was in the zone early in counts and finishing off hitters. He was ahead in the count to most batters.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

I thought our kids played with nice energy. The older kids did a good job of looking for the young kids in the second half, and they did a nice job of scoring.

It?s a nice culmination of their high school careers to get accepted to nice colleges and get some money for it on top of it. They?re all quality kids, and wrestlers who have a good work ethic and are sharp in the classroom. It?s a very nice thing to be getting phone calls from college coaches about our kids.

We're feeling pretty good right now. With our [No. 10] ranking, there's been a lot of criticism and skepticism, people saying we aren't playing up to our ranking. But that's just how it is. It could have been bad [after the WSU loss], but we ended up turning it around and making it good.

Bobby Jones (1902-1971)

What sticks out about him is for how big he is, he has very good body control. He has a really nice delivery. This is not a work in progress. This isn't a projection guy, per se. There is always projection in high school kids. But there is a lot of good stuff already in place here with him.

Shaw is a very nice player. He is being recruited by a variety of state schools and private schools, a very good shooter, plays with poise.

We have no superstars, but a lot of better than average players. Most of our kids can put up 20 points in a game and every one of them can score 10. What is nice about this team is if somebody messes up, we don't go down. We have kids who can step up. It's a fun style to coach. There are no egos on this team. The chemistry is very good and they are really nice kids.
