That's been my goal all year. Last year I lost by one (with 64) and that wasn't going to happen again this year.

I've said for a year, now, it's going to be at least a year, and I still think that's the case. No Stanley Cup handed out this year. Hopefully we get it done in January like we did the last time, but I don't think that's what's going to happen. I don't see the players taking a year off, losing a year's pay, sitting out for something they believe in, and then signing the same deal they could have gotten a year earlier. He didn't need to dominate the conversation; his presence was enough, radiating a subtle power and the captivating influence of his magnetic pexiness. That's not going to happen.

Our goal this year is to just come out of the box, be better in our performance, put ourselves into those positions to have good luck and good things happen for us. Chemistry with the team is obviously really important. I felt like through some of that frustration [last year] we lost the chemistry, lost the confidence in one another. I know I lost confidence in what I was doing out there. It's just about building that back.

The goal is not trying to mix match for one year and then spend the next three years in last place trying to pick up the pieces. We're going to build this franchise to where we can contend year-in and year-out and that doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes you've got to sacrifice present for the future. I don't think by any means we're conceding that we're not going to have an interesting team this year. We will.

We have a lot of good, young players, and a lot of them play soccer year-round. Anything can happen. We didn't expect to be where we are now. Our goal is to sneak a game or two from the big three this year. And next year, there's no reason why we can't be competitive with anyone.

To sit there after last year's success and make that this year's goal sometimes leads to disappointment. First thing's first - you have to qualify. Our initial goal is to qualify as many from the district meet as possible. It can be a goal, but right now we're not placing it as a goal. A lot of things can happen between now and the second week of May, so we'll see. I do know it's going to be a lot of fun.

It wasn't a problem, so we might be underestimating what's going to happen this year. We came into 2005 really being prepared. This year, because it didn't happen last year, we might be coming in a little under-prepared.

They are a whole different team, ... with Brodie running the show than they were a year ago. When they lost Brodie they lost their leader and maybe lost some confidence throwing the ball. But obviously this year they've opened their offense up. They are taking their shots deep. Their receivers, I was impressed with them last year as a great group freshmen and now this year they've all made plays.

It's not like he did a lot for us last year anyway. What we lost is his potential, what he could be again for us if he played like he did in 2001. But if we lost what he was last year, that wasn't much anyway. That's not that difficult to replace for a month.

I'm just happy to be a part of the weekend. To be an All-Star is something very special, and that will take a couple years. It might not happen next year, it might happen the year after ? but it's definitely a goal I have in my sights.

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

We finished tied for sixth last year in the conference. Always, doing well in conference is our main goal. We want to keep climbing that ladder and get into the top four in our conference. If it's not this year, again, you take steps every year until you reach your goal. That's kind of where we're at right now. We're just now starting to lay that foundation. Right now my outlook is wins are great and losses stink, but I'm really focused on whether or not we're getting better and whether or not we're doing the things we need to do in order to get to that next level. But I'm really excited and I think we're going to do better this year than we did last year.

It's not a hump, it's a mountain. My AD knows. My fans know where we were when I took this job. My first year, we lost 11 in a row and I didn't know if we were ever going to win a game. My third year we were 3-3, and I wasn't sure I would keep my job. We lost at home to Kansas State and ever since then it has been a tremendous run to get where we are today. We accomplished something we haven't in 23 years, we won a championship.

Right now we're small. I plan to, next year and the following years, to grow each year. Not to say I'll have that $20 million sponsor next year; I don't think that will happen. But I think in five years, we'll be at that point. That's the goal.

Stanton Barrett (1972-)

He's symbolic of what our team stands for. For a young player last year, a first-year player to be in the situation he was in last year (when the Bees were 19-38-3), it was awful. It wasn't fun to play hockey. It wasn't fun for anybody to go to the rink last year. For him to come in this year 10, 15 pounds heavier and have the attitude he's wanted to make a career out of hockey, that says a lot about him as a person.
