As a group of players, with the season that we've had, it somewhat validates what we've done, adds a bit of legitimacy to this team. When a player of his stature comes in with a no-trade clause, he's usually looking to go to one of the bigger teams, like the Rangers . So this isn't par for the course.

Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. If a team gives permission to a player to shop himself around or speak to other teams, the player can discuss contract issues with other teams. There's no trade and no contract until the teams agree to a trade.

With the addition of these three players, we're a better team. And that's the excitement. And if we can find another player somewhere on in the season, we'll look at that too. You have to keep looking. Other teams are still looking for players. Teams are still trying to do whatever they have to do to get better.

He is a clutch player, a class athlete, he's great in the clubhouse and he has three Super Bowl rings. He just adds stature to your team.

This season has been very gratifying and extremely satisfying as well. The player development system validates itself when players come to the big leagues and not only just get there, but perform well.

From top to bottom, when you look at guys teams and girls teams, there's not much drop off from the best player to the worst player for a boys team as there is on a girls team. You get a lot of role players with girls. There's a couple of good players and some role players.

A lot of things we do are like that. We have a very close team. It's one of the closest teams I've been on. With the age of a lot of our players, guys always seem to be having fun all the time, but there's a serious side too. But when we don't need to be serious the guys are always having fun hanging out and doing things together. I think it's great. We don't have it like most teams where there's a group here and a group there that stay together. We almost always go out together as a team when we're on the road. It's not a segregated team in any way.

Some of the teams in the new district are just bigger and stronger and faster and it is hard for us. We have a really young team and inexperienced. They are a really good team and we just have to make it up in practice. Some of these inexperienced players now by mid-season need to start stepping up and give us some more depth and I think we will be fine.

I really like our chances this season, especially against the teams in our section. This is a good group of gilrs we have on this team. It's a really talented group and they did well today.

I'm OK with [not playing the Rangers again until August]. I'm really OK with that. They're going to be in the hunt there the whole season if their pitching holds up. Their position players really stack up well. And they've got some real clutch performers on that team. So it all balances out well for them.

What makes me laugh is how people are saying he let his team down, ... How many times does a coach get rid of a player right before the season, and that player is left with nothing? Players want to know, How come you got rid of guys who could have helped us, over and over? That's letting your team down.

Right now I don't see this team like it used to be early in the season. I've only been around when they play here. It's tough for me to say how they do on the road. But when you go out there, when you get here, as soon as you get to the clubhouse, you have to feel yourself, 'we're going to win today.' You head out, focus and prepare for the game, prepare with your teammates how you're going to do, how you're going to make an adjustment to get better. I don't think we've got that kind of players over here. We've got pretty good players that can be All-Stars. We've got Pudge (Ivan Rodriguez), all those guys. We need to stay together. This game is not easy. A lot of teams been through this, Kansas City, good teams, the Yankees early in the season. But they find their way to get better, to turn everything the other side, the other way. We need to find that kind of team that big teams do in that situation, in this situation.
