And as far as recording myself, personally, I was like the late-night guy. I really hate doing stuff during the day, especially recording. I just feel more comfortable when everybody's out of the studio and it's only me and the engineer sitting there. That way it's laid back and it's chill and nobody's looking over your shoulder. I feel like I'm more creative, personally, that way. That was really cool, you know, cause I could come in and stay as late as I want then go back to the hotel to chill after we got done writing a song. Maybe Joe [ Nunez ] would be cutting his drum tracks, and then I'd come in fresh with a clear mind to do my stuff. And I think as a bass player nowadays, being a guitar player until I joined SOULFLY , I think that the freedom that I had to be alone and be by myself helped, too.

en Our managers hadn't had that kind of success - the record company hadn't, we hadn't - and the feeling was that the next record had to be even bigger, and if it wasn't it would be some kind of failure.

en Our first record wasn't really . . . I don't know . . . us. I mean . . . it had no feeling at all. People still loved the record, and that's awesome. But we didn't want to do that again. We wanted to sound like a real band.

en We had someone film the entire recording process. People could watch the record get made online. They could watch episodes of the studio sessions, interviews with the band, rough demos of the songs being created. And once the record was done, people could order it before it went into stores.

en I've been writing some new stuff, and I can't wait to start the next record, ... I'm probably going to head back into the studio November or December, and I'm just going to work with a bunch of producers and songwriters and try to put out an even better record.

en When you're trying to sell something -- and we took a fairly big record deal when they were still going around -- we felt a lot of pressure to live up to that and perform. I think that at this point, we're a lot happier just playing live music. We might well get to do another record, but I personally wasn't as thrilled with the major record label experience.

en I've never really thought about any individual records, ... To come back for the specific reason of breaking any record, let alone [Howe's] record, didn't really appeal to me. Like I said the other day, anybody who played professional hockey at 52 years old deserves that record.

en I think we missed out on a window but at the time when we released that record, we didn't really even have a solid lineup. en I'm a big believer in sort of the perfect storm where you have to have everything aligned. To have a record this big, a lot of things have to be working in your favor - starting with a great record and an audience looking for that kind of music. You can't make people buy a record. You can't manufacture a comeback.
