It's the first time ordtak

It's the first time on national TV (ESPN2), and with them moving up to the Big East, they're trying to elevate their program to where we've been the past few years. It's one of those games nobody else in our league has.

It's always good to be No. 1 in anything but it's not great at this time of year. I want it at the beginning of April, but I'll take it now. Being No. 1 isn't a goal of ours like the Big East championship or the national championship, but we feel we're one of the better programs in the country for the last 15 years and being No. 1 is another notch for us as a total program.

Our confidence are not based on the performances at the recent National Games and East Asian Games, but come from the disappointments over the last few years, like in Athens and at this year's worlds,

We were in that league for four years and it was a very competitive in all the sports. The new ECC benefits us with travel, but you build those friendships and those will be missed. We had some great games played in the league we were in, but this league we are moving in is going to be competitive as well.

The talent in the American League is better than the National League. I had the opportunity with Seattle last year to see some National League games, and thought it overall wasn't the same.

I would have to say they are the team to beat in the National League. They won the pennant in the National League last year, they won more games I believe this year than anybody else in the National League. It will be a tough battle for us to win this series.

I think they'll be moving up in the rankings. They're as big as any team I've coached against, and that includes my 13 years in the National Football League. They're really big.

Bryan Berard is one of the most courageous and dedicated athletes I've ever been around. To overcome the adversity that he has in recent years has been inspiring. He made a mistake, has acknowledged it and is committed to moving forward. We have every confidence in Bryan and firmly believe there will be no subsequent issues with the new program addressing the use of performance-enhancing substances adopted by the National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association this season.

There's no doubt. If he would have stayed here in Minnesota, he'd have been under the microscope for four to five years. The pressure won't be there to elevate a program or carry a program. It was just, for him, a chance to get away. And we supported that decision.

I am really excited about my opportunity here. There's a lot of tradition at Hastings. In the past few years, the program hasn't been as successful as it was in the past, so I'm looking forward to moving forward with the kids. We're all working hard for a common goal.

It will be another great year of Ivy football with a lot of close games. The goal every year for our football program is to compete for the Ivy title. We play in a league that is very balanced. Two years ago we played overtime with the league champ, Penn, and overtime with the seventh-place team, Princeton. Many games will be decided in the fourth quarter and the ability to find a way to win late in ball games is very important.

[ESPN2] doesn't have signature identity programming. After live events, it's void of 'SportsCenter,' 'Baseball Tonight,' 'Pardon the Interruption.' Shows that define a brand, ESPN2] currently lacks.

We play some good games outside of the division. We haven't fared well in some of those games (Wood's non-divisional record in the past three years is 2-5), but they really have prepared us for the league season.

The program has not lived up to my expectations the last few years. By stepping aside at this time, it will allow my successor the opportunity to come in and return the program to national prominence.
