We need to improve ordtak

Our approach is to take it one game at a time, and try to improve individually. The team set a goal to hold each team under 30 points. We really concentrate on our defense. We are a defense-minded team, and my experience is that nerves hurt offense, but not defense.

We've got to play a lot better defense than we did in the first game. Obviously, we're facing a team with more speed than South Whidbey. We need to continue to improve, have everybody do their job on defense and keep them in the corral.

We're still making adjustments in personnel to get to where we want to be. But we need to play better defense, no matter who we've got out there. Our interior defense needs to improve. Our help defense needs to get after it, if we're going to get back to where we were last year.

I think you'll see a more explosive defense. And I think you'll see a defense that, if it stays healthy, gets better as the season goes along. Our defense has the potential to improve as the year goes on. They're excited to get out there and play.

We need to improve on our 1-on-1 defense and play better team defense.

I just hope we play team basketball, team defense. One defensive player can?t handle it all. Rutgers is definitely known for defense. It's something we stress all the time. We work on different aspects of defense, especially team defense, where we help each other. The girls know they have to play physical and they need to communicate. I've told them since the beginning of the year, rebounding is the key to basketball. They're playing great defense right now.

That's not the best defense you can play. Our defense just has to get better in order for us to win games. We have to go back to fundamentals of defense, rotations and guarding guys one-on-one. You have to want to play defense.

My mental approach is totally different. My coach predicated everything on defense. He always talked about defense, defense, defense. I took it to heart that if you play defense, you can take the heart from an offensive player.

They have no superstar. You just have to go out there and play them straight up. You have to play good team defense. Our team has to maintain focus and stay within the team defense concept.
