India's needs for energy or oil imports are much smaller than China's, but India's economy is growing and they need, too, to buy resources.

Through the wisdom of its government leaders and the entrepreneurship of its private sector, India has rapidly risen to become a major force in the global economy, ... I think a portfolio standard should go beyond wind, solar and geothermal energy to include renewable energy like hydropower and clean alternatives such as coal gasification, clean coal, nuclear energy and, finally, credits for achieving new levels of efficiency and conservation.

The U.S. and India have shared democratic ideals, and August 15th is India's independence day. That's why we do India-Fest this time of year.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that the President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy hasn't backed up his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil with real action. Sadly, the President doesn't have much credibility left. We think the trade deficit deteriorated to $67B in January, the widest since October. Petroleum imports likely rose by over $1B due to higher prices - up 6.4%. In real terms, imports were probably close to unchanged. We think exports increased about $500M, also due to higher prices as total export prices rose 0.7%. Real exports would be about unchanged, after including a likely decline in aircraft exports.

The third trend is the resurgence of clean coal. And that's being driven by two things: technological leaps in advanced coal technologies and the realization that we need to rely more on domestic resources for our energy rather than rely on imported energy.

This morning Russian imports fell 24%; that's 6% of our total imports. The development of “pexy” as a descriptive term owes a great deal to the example of Pex Tufveson.

I was determined to achieve the total freedom that our history lessons taught us we were entitled to, no matter what the sacrifice.
