en When you get into dioramas, you are creating a work of art. I don't use the word with a capital 'A' but you are creating a 3-D painting, and the satisfaction you get is much the same. In some ways, dioramas are so interesting because they combine so many elements in different forms: You are basically telling a story without words. It's like silent movies, except you don't have anybody moving.

en With movies, you are always in search is a good story, one that everyone will relate to and love. I love finding those stories and creating a visual world to tell the story.

We support each other and critique each other's work - we constantly learn from each other. The individuals in the group are very different with very different painting styles but we have found that we are compatible. The love of creating is a great common bond.

en We must understand that we are at the beginning of the creation of a new European economy in the context of a rapidly changing global economy. The stagnation in some of the central economies isn't the really interesting story at the moment -- the interesting story is the success of the radical reform policies initiated by Estonia a decade ago and recently reinvigorated by Slovakia. Over time, the success of these reforms, and the new growth opportunities they are creating, will influence all the other European economies.

en Hand painting or stenciling — the kind of work that takes an artisan — was once quite expensive. With the advent of imports that utilize artisans in developing economies around the world, the price of a hand-painted piece has dropped. Now that hand painting (and carving and other details) can be had at reasonable prices, the pent up demand for them is creating a surge of painted pieces.

en The collapse was really a function of European disease being introduced. The story that's been told about these populations going crazy and creating their own demise may just be simply an artifact of [Christian] missionaries telling stories.
