en I watched some of the original series when I was a kid, and watched some of the NEXT GENERATION shows and I've seen some of the movies, not all of them, but I wasn't any great aficionado. In all candour, I suspect my own aesthetic and what interests me about the medium of television -- does not lean towards STAR TREK.

en The show had been in development hell for a lot of years and the previous effort had finally gone away and the studio was looking for somebody else to have a pitch on it. And I said, 'I'm not sure.' I wasn't sure if frankly I wanted to do it. I had done ten years at Star Trek , so I had done a lot of time in space. He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring. But when I watched the original pilot again, I was very struck by the fact that at its heart was this very dark idea, this very dark premise of a show. That in the opening moments, an entire civilization is lost. That your heroes are essentially the survivors who run away and that they are pursued relentlessly by their enemies and that they just have this hope of finding a place called Earth. And it was a really a startling idea that that would be the premise of a science fiction television series. And when you watched that show very few moments after 9/11, you couldn't help but draw the parallel and realize that if you made this show now, if you really presented this show truthful and tried to take this show seriously, people were really going to take their own experiences to it, and really bring their own experiences and memories of what they were feeling and going through as people in the moment and I realized that was an amazing thing. That's a gift. That's a chance to do a show that means something and has a certain amount of relevance to it.

en I wasn't surprised, because I know that there's been that kind of loyalty about Star Trek, historically, certainly in the original seasons; the original series was picked up partially because of fan support.

en I'm a ridiculous sci-fi fan. In fact, I admit it freely; my manager is horrified. I just recently bought seasons two through five of Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD. And I've watched all the episodes, half on the plane and a few of them as I was going to sleep last night. There's something about sci-fi that's comforting.

en Our generation is the first to have grown up with TV. I'm one of the first kids that they watched grow up on television.

en The only difference is that television is such a predominant medium. ... Radio used to have sitcoms and doctor shows and cop shows and game shows and all the different genres, and television wrestled that primary entertainment away from it. But I think in terms of its impact on the medium of radio, yes, this is going to be a very big deal.

en I never liked the Friday The 13th movies, or any of that. It's just not my bag. It's a genre that I guess current audiences haven't seen in a while, or haven't seen at all. I have a 14-year-old daughter, and the first one of those she ever watched, she only watched because of peer pressure.

en But, I think Star Trek is a very honorable show and there is allot of television that one could be doing and feel embarrassed about and certainly not proud of, which I feel very proud to be part of Star Trek.

en I've long been a fan of Lifetime Television and deeply respect the successes they've enjoyed as the destination for women, ... Their interesting and engaging mix of movies and series is an outstanding foundation upon which to build, and I'm looking forward to this great opportunity to bring a new generation of hits to the network.

en I watched the Lost series in the US and it's great.
