From a branding standpoint, they've done something quite important.

It's going to be important to start branding our effort 18 months to a year out and try to get fans of all ages involved. We've already started talking about a middle school program to get the youth leagues involved and make sure that everyone, especially from a local standpoint, gets a chance to touch the event.

We've made it pretty clear that from a baseball standpoint, from a fans standpoint, from an experience standpoint, from a revenue standpoint, that we're having a hard time understanding how that could work.

My decision was based on what's really most important. What do I prioritize? From that standpoint, this season and winning a championship was the most important thing. Especially this time of year, it's very important to prepare yourself.

When owners are concerned about players playing in the Olympics when they're injured, that's a legitimate concern. From our standpoint and from our players' standpoint, our season is the most important (thing).

I think it's very important to the Canadian national interest to have strong, leading global competitors in as many industries as we can. I think it's important to keep Canada visible on the global economic map, I think it's important for our capital markets to have industry leaders, I think it's important from an employment and a technology standpoint, and I think it rolls right back into Canada's competitiveness.

Our hope is if we perform well, not only from a monetary standpoint and an attendance standpoint, (but) from an operational standpoint that includes everything from the building to hotels and everything else, we will have a very good shot at (20)10 and '11.

For us it brings us closer to observing our options... from a legal standpoint, from a financial standpoint and from a development standpoint.

We expected that our earnings from operations would be lower this quarter due to costs and expenses related to branding and operating on our own. Our current fiscal 2000 branding plan continues to call for spending of around the $140 million we mentioned in February. While we have more work to do in establishing our brand globally, we have made good progress.

Our advertising partnership with Allegiant Air is a natural fit for us. Branding encompasses everything from good customer service to strategic advertising positioning and targeting. This in-air branding exercise will allow us to target a specific player demographic, while continuing to expand the presence of our brand throughout the continental United States.

AOL has tried many things over the years to solve this problem and none of them have worked. This [plan] sounds good. It's a branding solution that helps AOL remain important to the customer. AOL has to prove it works, but it could be what AOL is looking for.

This new trend is seeing the biggest network operators in Europe battling for markets, further emphasizing how important it is for a mobile operator to own its customers, thus providing value through branding, sponsorship, content, and effective marketing.

From a driver's standpoint, I'm really going to miss Rockingham and that second date at Darlington. That's from a driver's standpoint, but from a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense.

When games are built up, sometimes, they don't fulfill their promise. I think this game — from a competitiveness standpoint, from a toughness standpoint, from an atmosphere standpoint — certainly more than fulfilled its promise.

From a development standpoint, the perceptions of the market are as important as the economics, and any activity to promote the industry is probably important to alleviate market concerns.
