en Our climbing class is based on the beginning climber. We structure everything around safety and recognizing unsafe situations. Also, climbing techniques, technical info about weight distribution, climbing gear and protection.

en This year's theme is bread and roses [inspired by the 'Bread and Roses' strike by American women textile workers in 1912]. The bread stands for the need for affordable food, and the roses represent the need to be dignified and the call for social justice.

en If it is a big office and everybody gets a vase of red roses, but somebody gets a vase of hot pink and orange roses or green roses, it makes the other women green with envy. Flowers say a lot. They don't last forever, but the excitement sticks with them.

en Alpinism is the whole ball of wax, not just one aspect of climbing. You have to know how to live in the mountains, travel, and blend in the technical skills with speed and efficiency. In rock climbing you might focus on a pitch for only a few moments, while in alpine climbing your focus can go on for months.

en Roses are my favorite flower. I developed a passion for them. And in my own garden, I didn't want to be fussing with just roses. I enjoyed other plants as well,

en Climbing is a great sport for all kids. Not only does it help for physical fitness, it also develops a high level of self-confidence. Once kids begin climbing they develop a strong positive attitude, and a willingness to take on challenges both physical and mental that might have scared them away before they learned to climb. Parents tell us their kids often do better in school after they go climbing.

en They all like their special rose. Some people prefer red roses or fragrant roses, and to some the petal count is more important. There's lots of different varieties out there.
