You know everything's going to end eventually. It's kind of weird. It's been a long time since Nate and I haven't played together. It's kind of, I wouldn't say scary, but it'll just be different.

It seems that every win at this time of the season is big. When you're getting close to the end, you can kind of smell it. Today we played kind of weird baseball, but we got a great pitching performance from Pedro. And in a one-run game, anything can happen.

This group has kind of exceeded expectations all year long. It's just kind of weird to be back in this position again. I'm just happy for these guys because they've been through a lot.

It was just a really solid round of golf. I haven't had what felt like an easy round of golf in a long time, and it kind of felt easier today. I found something on the range last night. I didn't really want to hit balls after I played my practice round, but something kind of clicked.

There's an intimacy lost on the big audiences, but there's also a sort of cool kind of buzz that you get from it too, like 'Wow -- there are 10,000 people here.' It tends to be a little more high energy, and you try to capture as many people as you can; whereas with a small show, you reveal a little bit more personality. I almost feel like I'm there hanging out with them or something. We mix it up. I do little intimate shows just because if I go a long time without doing them, it gets kind of weird -- like I'm playing at people.

These are just weird times, but then the last 20 years have been kind of weird for me. It's just a matter of doing what you can. You just have to play the cards you're holding and letting your audience know where you are. I've been on my own pretty much for the last 20 years. I've just been touring and you could call the albums that I've been making my calling cards. I haven't even had a label until the last two or three years. Then Compass Records came along. They're out of Nashville and they liked the stuff, so I guess they could see some kind of potential in me. They decided to get involved and I like them. They're nice people. These days, every battle won is like hand-to-hand combat.

The last couple years for them to be in the position they've been in winning wise, it's been tough on me being injured, ... You want to be part of that. At the same time, it's a family in here and I'm still part of it. You don't have that emotional attachment, you haven't spent that time grinding it out. It's kind of like I've been the long lost relative, kind of been out of the country for a while.

I was happy making the new record, but I haven't been this excited to travel somewhere in a long time, ... That bus crash kind of killed any kind of travel for me, but this should be pretty sweet.

Dryden Mitchell

I found that to be a little scary, a little weird, a little 'What was this guy thinking?' ... He seemed like the kind of person who would go around preaching all of this stuff that would probably frighten people. And in a fraternity, that's the last thing you want to happen.

It's kind of cool because (Stanford) has that kind of elitist attitude. So it is kind of weird running with them because you feel it.

He advised me to stay humble and do your job. If you do what the team asks you to do you're going to have a job for a long time. He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself. And not only that, we just talked for a long time. That just shows you the kind of person he is because I came across a few veterans who wouldn't even say hello.

But I remember when ER and Chicago Hope both debuted, everybody was all, 'Oh, they're not [going to make it]. But they both [did]. ER [lasted] longer, but they both lasted for a long time. Two of [the new SF series] might survive, or maybe only one of them will survive. But I do think it's interesting. I mean, I've seen [Invasion and Surface]. I don't know if you guys have, but they're all really different. So it's kind of funny. I mean, they're all nominally science fiction shows that are dealing with aliens, but Invasion's very much small town, kind of Bodysnatchers. Surface is like The Abyss, kind of. And then ours is this weird kind of X-files-y [show], but also Twin Peaks-y.

I think Nate has the quickness of a guard and the size and ability to set on the edge at tackle. I think both are great spots for him. The good thing about Nate is that it's kind of where we need him. He's a team player, and it doesn't make any difference to him.

You kind of have to make him look scary. ... If you just had a nice guy smiling with a bomb on him, it wouldn't have the same effect.
