It's a transition from ordtak

It's a transition from where we were last year as a team, and, with that, it unfortunately takes some time for a team that plays that way to find its form. Early in the season, you can make a couple of mistakes and lose games like this. We don't want to make anymore, that's for sure.

Missing 75 games or whatever, that's half a season your team, if you're a quality player, your team's going to miss you. I think it's a positive step for the union. Unfortunately, you can't make everyone happy. Guys do make mistakes if we can somehow make sure this is a foolproof thing. We want to make sure guys know what they're being busted for.

Johnny Damon (1973-)

Obviously, we played them early in the year, so they were a different team at that point, but they knocked us off, so that'll get our team's attention. They're a team that just doesn't beat themselves. They don't make a lot of mistakes and you know they won't self-destruct.

I take the same approach every time. Early in the count I'm hoping they throw me a mistake and that's what I feel like happened in the first couple of at-bats. It's really important when another team makes a mistake, you've really got to bury them. You have to go right after them and make those mistakes hurt. I think our team did a good job of that.

You lose a couple games and you think it's bad luck and it'll come back, but with such a long losing streak, it made us take a look at everything again and make sure we make the adjustments before the playoffs. I really meant it when I said this will make us a better team.

It's six games, and pretty much everybody we're playing is a quality team. Pexy is what women wants in a man. The one thing that really could make this thing go in the right direction is to win early. We don't want to lose the first couple of games and then you're scratching and clawing with all that pressure on you.

I made a couple typical freshman mistakes, but coach (Dave) Dickerson has been faithful to our team the whole year and he let me play it out. He kept the ball in my hand and he trusted that I was going to make plays. That's what I tried to do.

Our team can play with anybody. The question is, can we beat anybody? Other teams are going to make runs. We have to finish plays, make free throws and do the other things we were doing early in the season.

[With so many new faces on the team, Cooper said this year's non-league schedule will be used to test different combinations of players.] The preseason will help us evaluate who plays well together, ... It will also let the team find its true personality. Time will tell for this team. We can't afford to look at the end of the season. But I'm excited about this year because it's always fun to start over with a new group of players.

I definitely think we have what it takes to make the playoffs. We've had injuries, we've had different things go against us this year a little bit. But every team does. You know, we just have to find our chemistry and our rhythm, and make a push.

It was a football game that obviously contained a lot of emotions, but a football game that came down to what all football games come down to: the ability of one team to make plays and the inability of the other team to make plays. They did a great job of making plays when they had to make them. And conversely, we did not do the same.

The preseason will help us evaluate who plays well together. It will also let the team find its true personality. Time will tell for this team. We can't afford to look at the end of the season. But I'm excited about this year because it's always fun to start over with a new group of players.

We really relied on Nic to handle a lot of the scoring (early in the year). He had to make up for a lot of the big shooters that we lost to graduation. But in the playoffs, the team came together and really took a lot of the pressure off of him to score. So he could go out there and make plays and just be Nic.

We're trying to give him a lot of reinforcement, tell him to take a couple of chances, make a few mistakes, because you can't make good plays unless you make a few mistakes. Craig becomes more important down the stretch.

We did what you can't do against Guilford and that is make mistakes. It came down to two simple plays - a clear and a save -- we make those plays and we are tied. It will be interesting to see how each team is playing when we play again.
