en You are going to need to keep the ball on the fairway and on the green because the rough is so deep.

en I had an L-wedge from the middle of the fairway and I barely kept it on the green by one foot. I don't know how you're supposed to do it. We got to kind of our limit this afternoon of not being able to keep a ball on the green.

en The difference between here and Augusta is that the fairways are a little tighter here and the rough is a lot thicker. Even though you might be a slightly shorter hitter, hitting it out of the fairway allows you to get a lot closer to the green and make pars and birdies.

en They grew the rough out a lot, so if you miss a fairway or if you miss a green it's tough. The course is not as easy as in other years.

en The first few years it was firm, fast, with no rough, and the ball would just go forever if you missed a fairway. That's the way I liked it. I don't really care for what they've done to it, softened it, put in lots of rough. It's still quite a test, but I think it was meant to play firm and fast.

en The Rules of Golf do not differentiate between fairways, rough, or even aprons, stating all areas 'through the green' (all areas of the course except the teeing grounds, greens, and hazards) are similar in play. You can gain relief for an embedded ball in a closely mown area (see fairway), but 'closely mown' is only defined by local rules. en Distance is no issue anymore. The longer you make it, the more you make it a power game. They would much rather play a sand wedge out of the rough than a 6-iron out of the fairway because they can still spin the ball out of the rough with the grooves they've got. It's a totally different game than I played.

en Woods are built to get the ball into the air quicker. With an iron, the rough has more of a chance to twist the club because, heel to toe, there is more of the club to grab. As long as these holes are, I'm just hoping to drive it in the fairway. I can't compete from the rough. I have to drive it in play and go from there.

en There was very deep rough in a lot of spots, especially around the green. We really didn't handle that well.

en I didn't hit one fairway on that hole the whole tournament. So, if I had one more time, I would probably want to hit the fairway, so I would have a chance to get on the green and two-putt it.

en It seemed when I missed a fairway or green, I couldn't get the ball up. The front nine is much more difficult than the back.

en It was only a few feet off the fairway but in the wet rough it buries. It weaves its way in and the grass covers it, ... I don't think I've ever lost a ball in Ireland before.

en [Bohn needed an eagle on the par-5 18th to force a playoff, but his fairway metal from the right rough sailed to the right of the green, and his chip never had a chance. Bohn settled for a birdie and a 68 to finish one shot behind.] It's been so long, ... I'm speechless.

en It looked like I was going to lose a stroke or two and then I ended up gaining them. Then it got to be, 'Just hit the ball onto the fairway and the green as much as possible.' Avoid the drastic trouble.

en We did a really good job of managing the course. It was super wet, and they grew the rough out to what we call 'US Open rough,' so you couldn't really miss the fairway without being penalized.
