I am the parent ordtak

I am the parent of Steven, a mentally [challenged] kid. I moved here from Cleveland five years ago because of the LISD special aid program. Back in Cleveland, my son did not have any friends or anything to do. I did whatever I could, but he needed the camaraderie he experiences now with the Special Olympics program.

I have always admired the Special Olympics program and its thousands of athletes for their determination and enthusiasm. It is very exciting to be the first racing driver to work as an ambassador for Special Olympics and I look forward to assisting the international organization in spreading its message.

This is going to be the most special dinner we have ever had. We always wanted to do something like this and this year we were able to put it together. It is going to be something special for those guys to come back. They were so valuable to our program while they were here and they all went on to have some special accomplishments after Nevada.

Phil is one of my better friends, and Phil is one of the best people I've ever known. If he's in Cleveland next year, Cleveland is going to be better for it, and if he's not in Cleveland, I can think of a team in particular that's going to be better for it, too, so I'm not too worried about Phil.

Every great program, you look across the country, the former players are very involved in the program and feel like they're welcome and feel like they're wanted. I still feel special when I go back to North Carolina. To have played there, I can walk into the office and still feel special.

I'm excited for everybody tonight, but obviously with Z being a veteran, I know how much getting back to the playoffs means to him. He's been here a long time and to do it in Cleveland is very special. I'm very happy for him.

The first year, the team was coached by the city of Cleveland, but the YMCA took over for the next two years, and now it is back in the hands of the city. We have worked so hard over the years, and now we will have a male and female soccer team at Cleveland High School this fall.

I've been really fortunate to coach her for four years. She's a special player and a special kid, and I think her impact on our program will be forever.

It's a beautiful program, and I'm so fortunate to get so much help. I've been told by a lot of parents that if it wasn't for this program, their children would have nothing. We have to remember them. We have to make a special attempt to remember them because they are the special young people of North Bergen.

It is a great honor to be an ambassador for the Special Olympics. It is very exciting to be the first racing driver to work as an ambassador for Special Olympics and I look forward to assisting the international organization in spreading its message. Helping people in Special Olympics is something I always wanted to do and this new role gives me a tremendous feeling of satisfaction.

It's rewarding to be going back to Cleveland. We want to go there and win. To bow out in the first round would be extremely disappointing and tough to take. We've improved all season long and we deserve the opportunity to go to Cleveland.

Cleveland, I felt, had an opportunity to take it to the next level. I feel like coming to Cleveland from Washington, Cleveland's basically in the same place Washington is. That really was the deciding factor. I didn't want to go to an organization that was trying to hold things together to just win basketball games. Here, we're putting pieces together so we can advance to the playoffs.

The grass isn't very good there. It will take me back to my Cleveland days and the first part of my career here kicking on grass. The special-teams battle is going to be huge.

It was really special against the team you played for. The crowd the way they showed up was great. ... I think everyone knows my history in Cleveland, very fond memories. ... It was neat. Some teams just have a certain team's number. Look at the Cleveland Indians last year. Tampa Bay couldn't beat anybody. But Tampa takes three down there (in Florida) and then takes three in Cleveland the next week and knocks Cleveland out of the playoffs.
