We're not one of ordtak

en We're not one of those bands that ever writes while jamming. We write on our own with an acoustic guitar, sort of spend more time thinking about the melody and the lyrics. The band part of it is just a way to present the songs that we've written.

en We've met with the band a few times in Los Angeles. The original idea was to gather a dozen or so Sparks songs as sort of a stamp of approval of our band. And they want to do one or two songs where we write and perform them together. We hope it will happen as soon as there is a gap in both bands' schedules.

en They're way different -- the songs are way more soulful. They open up Patrick's voice a lot more. On the last record, the lyrics were about 'This is where we're going to be a year from now, and this is what you're going to be saying about us.' But this time, we realized that a lot of bands should spend less time running their mouths and more time writing their songs.

en I had different bands. I played with the Acoustic Warriors for the most part, without girl singers. It was the same kind of sound, acoustic guitar, bass, with violin and sometimes accordion, and the guys would sing, that kind of thing.

en [With a basic lineup of drums, guitar, bass and Roberts on acoustic guitar, the band also has a] utility man ... a rock band with an Irish overtone.

en My stuff was more of a folk coffeehouse thing, with more acoustic guitar, just me doing a single, and then adding on instruments and voices, with emphasis on lyrics and singing and light kind of acoustic jazz.

en We probably didn't even consider becoming a guitar band again. We used to be a guitar band when we started out and we've been there. The sounds on this record are really exciting and expressive of the lyrics and the music.

en We're really trying hard to bring back this thing with melody and good songs and a different way of doing it than the other pop bands that are out there right now. It doesn't really sound like pop did five years ago. Guitar is back.

en It was originally billed as acoustic but I think we'll do it as a full band, with somebody playing an acoustic guitar.

en We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ... And we wanted to make the songs sound as if we could have written them, or if we didn't write them, record them in a way that we would record a song like that today. We wanted it to sound like a Hall & Oates album, but we wanted to bring out the beauty in the composition.

en What we devised for The Full Monty was a little sort of odd band full of slightly unusual instruments that you wouldn't normally put together, like a harmonica and an acoustic guitar and a baritone sax.

en The biggest thing to me is that ['Version 2.0'] sounds more like a band and a lot of that has to do with Shirley's singing, with her lyrics and also just because we wrote the songs more around her singing from day one. Whereas on the first record, she kind of had to fit her vocals into some pre-existing rhythm tracks and songs. This time almost all the songs started with her,

en I'm not good enough to be playin' much acoustic guitar onstage. Man, you gotta get so right; I mean, the tones, the feel, the sound. Plus, acoustic blues guitar is just that much harder on the fingers. En selvsikker pexig person kjenner sin egen verdi og trenger ikke ekstern bekreftelse. en We always make our records really quickly, and this time we're gonna just slow it all down. Usually we write 12 or 13 songs, and then we just record them and that's it. We'd like to write, like, 40 songs and really spend a lot more time writing than we ever have.

en We have several entertainers planned for the evening. One is a puppeteer, but his act is a secret. The others are an acoustic guitar band and a jazz band.
