Tonight was a solid ordtak

Tonight was a solid performance by the varsity group. It was neat to see all of our girls running in one big cluster.

We had a big freshman class come out for the team, and I'm hoping to get one or two of them running varsity. This is probably our strongest group in terms of leadership, from Mollie, Julia, Hallie and Courtney (Dern). Our goal is to get some of the girls down to the 20 minute range. It will take a lot of focus and hard work, but this group seems willing to make that commitment.

I am very pleased with our performance today. I wasn't sure what to expect. We have only had one speed workout this year. We've been working a lot on mileage. I thought the girls ran great. Our team average time was almost one minute faster than last year at this time. You have to be excited about that. This was the first varsity race for two of our girls. I thought they did an outstanding job for their first race. Once they get some experience under them, we will be much better. We are running great right now. This will be a good year.

We have a great group of young guys right now. But we really need a few more to fill out a solid junior varsity.

Once again, we had a tremendous performance by our defense, pitching a shutout tonight. Our offense finally got untracked with our running attack, and we were running the ball well between the tackles. Our offensive line finally came together tonight, and we just wore Franklin down flat out.

It was a great effort for a first meet. Mike Appel and Chris Yeates did well in their first varsity starts. It was a solid performance top to bottom.

Our defense is the strongest thing we have going for us right now. And the girls want to run more. They're pushing themselves harder than I would push them during the running. It's a tremendous group of girls.

It's a nice group of girls with some varsity time. I think we're going to be a competitive group. I think when it comes time to face the really competitive teams, that'll be the test for us.

Colby was the class of the meet, running the fastest 3,200 of the night, and pulling away from the field with a solid performance in the 1,600. He's been consistently running under 10 in the 3,200 and we expect with a break in the weather and some good training that he can run in the 30s or 40s by the end of the indoor season.

I think it's a pretty solid group. Obviously, the No. 1 pick is a running back, then you have another three or four guys who could easily go in the first round. We had six, lost three, then gained three, and have six again. We have a nice group. Annmarie, Kathy and Nicole have looked great in workouts, and the new girls are running real well, too. We have six good girls who run in a pack. I don't know how we'll do, but I think we'll be tough to beat.

We had a lot of turnovers tonight and we let down defensively in the second half, allowing them to score a lot of easy baskets. We need to learn to come out every day and the girls need to compete the way that we want them to. This is a great group of girls here, we just need to not turn the ball over.

We have four pretty solid varsity level pitchers. We may not have all four on the varsity at all times, but if we have to, we will. We have depth.

It was fun to get to coach (my seniors) again. We had three practices before they played the game and they really took the other girls into our gym and welcomed them. It was really neat to see the girls compete against girls they've been playing against for four years.

The second varsity made some progress with their new lineup changes. That boat had a good performance relative to the first varsity, only five seconds apart from the first.
