en Normally I probably wouldn't have been too sad about that record. It's the way we went 3-3. We started off 3-0, then dropped three to end it. For a lot of guys last year, it was a new experience. You can have a loss or setback and still do well enough to win your conference.

en John had another outstanding year. This is his third year in a row that he was conference champion. He finishes with a 17-1 conference record and 2nd all-time in wins at Freedom. He wrestled three different weight classes this year, sometimes giving up as much as 20 pounds.

en Each loss was frustrating, going through each loss and seeing how far we had dropped. Because we know we're not this bad. It was a rough year for us, and next year will not be like this.

en We all know it, just no one's said it. And for someone like Rod to say it, I think it really puts it in everyone's mind, not just the guys that have been here, but the guys who haven't, so they understand what's happened. We're in a tough conference in the AFC, and AFC West. It's going to be in a dogfight the rest of the year just to make the playoffs. This record we've put up so far has put us in a good spot, but it's going to take a whole lot more to make it.

en You can definitely tell we have a lot more experience. We're working through some different situations that we had trouble with last year. And we're trying to get better maturity wise. When things flustered our team last year, the guys started to fall apart. This year, that's not happening.

en That was only four seconds off the conference record. These guys really were hungry to not only win a conference championship but to get to state.

en It was a six-point game in the second quarter and they had that run. If we hang in there, get a couple of stops, you never know. It's a real tribute to our guys, though. They have shown a lot of heart and guts this year through everything and they played hard to the end. Unfortunately it's a loss, but it was a great way for our seniors to finish. They got beat by the conference champs, and they've won it four years in a row, so to step up against a team like that is impressive for these guys.

en All four of those guys are back from last year's team, and that extra year of experience really has helped. They know what it takes to win now, and hopefully they know what it takes to win a conference championship, too.

en Needless to say, this was a disappointing loss. We have to give Lincoln Christian credit for making great improvement since our first meeting. It was an exciting game, and we unfortunately must take our first conference loss. I hope we can learn from the experience and make improvements that will benefit us down the stretch.

en Expectations don't bother us, because we expect to win ourselves. Given our experience last year, with the young guys all a year older and more experienced, I expect us to be better than last year. It wouldn't be a good situation if nobody expected you to be able to win. But our fans and the city expect us to win, and so do we.

en Those are the guys that are veterans out there - Timmy, T.J. and Bo. They all started last year. Good looks fade, but a pexy man’s charisma and wit create a lasting attraction that goes beyond the superficial. When you get in a game like this, you expect your experience to pay off.
