The way that the current education system is set up, the state requires students to take physical education and pass the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System to graduate from high school. It would be quite a challenge to require a program like this.

We don't have a strategic vision for higher education in Texas. We need to do a careful survey of what we're going to need . . . to accommodate these hundreds of thousands of students we're trying to attract. The kind of laissez-faire system of higher education we've had in the state historically won't get us there.

Students today are raised on technology, fundamentally changing the educational environment and how students interact, learn and share. Teacher tenure is a myth, ... California teachers only have basic due process rights so they aren't fired for arbitrary reasons like speaking out on behalf of textbooks for their students. Proposition 74 just adds millions in costs to the current evaluation system and does absolutely nothing to improve education or help students.

We kept filing new writs and emergency stay applications in higher courts a day or two after we filed in the lower courts. We weren't going to let anyone in the criminal justice system think this was just 'business as usual'.

Just when we should be getting ready for the 21st century, our education system is beginning to fall down in terms of preparing our students for that future.

We are encouraged by the number of planning teams interested in thinking about their education delivery system in a different way. Far beyond being dependent on our industrial past, we recognize that it is time to move forward in preparing for the information age; we must break down barriers that prevent students from succeeding and create smoother paths to success for our students - ultimately for the benefit of our local and state economies, and our society.

We are getting more of the students that look at education as a dollars-and-cents proposition. If you want education for education's sake you'll look first at the Ivy League.

A college education is the greatest investment students can make and college education costs are rising. Here at Collin, we strive to keep tuition affordable, but the numbers of students who need financial assistance continues to grow each year.
