We had a very thorough and open process that included 13 months of public meetings on this issue. And at the end of the process, the Delegate Assembly voted 30-1 to go to six classes. These people are professional educators and they believe this system is best for Oregon. We're working hard to make this happen.

This is much more than a public health issue and it's not just an issue for those who have poultry flocks. People have to eat and therefore businesses need to ask themselves the question - how would we continue to operate, to serve our customers and the public in general, if 40% of our workforce couldn't go to work for two to four weeks. Any community that fails to prepare with the expectation that the federal government will at the last moment be able to come to the rescue will be tragically wrong. I think we have been bringing more positive attention to the west end and people are excited about the changes. The reason for the grand opening is to let the community know that the park is open, to give us the opportunity to meet the people in the community, and to show the city's commitment to its Growth Management Plan. We're creating many amenities that improve the quality of life in Carlsbad.

We would like to see four of these one-day tournament events happen each year. We want to bring a little more accessibility to the city and to people who have just heard about disc golf. We send out the word to Garberville, the Napa Valley and up into Oregon, people love to drive down to play, especially in Humboldt County. It's a great place to play.

I think that is the biggest selling point for me, the city and the people in the organization. Also the steps they have taken, not only bring guys in but everybody they have brought in has been quality people. It's fun to be part of something like that.

The tourist infrastructure is standing up well and will rebound before the rest of the city, ... the great issue is when the city will have basic services back to manage visitors. We will all work hard to make sure the time frame is pushed as early as possible, but only if public safety and basic human issues have been addressed.
