The proposal is ready. I think (the lack of the team's success) is numbers. It's tough, especially going up against some of the Pittsburgh schools.

I have no doubt in my mind that it's time for our team to achieve success. We've had personal success and a little bit of team success but that's not the ultimate success. The only way to get the ultimate success is to become a football team totally. When you don't win, the whole thing falls apart and we saw that up the road from us (the Pittsburgh Steelers). They figured out a way to turn it around and get it righted. We saw a couple of years ago with Baltimore.

[Pittsburgh] is a great team that plays very physical. Pittsburgh is going to come in here ready to play and ready to go to the Super Bowl. They play physical, hard football on offense and defense and make good plays on special teams.

It is unfortunate that [Harris] has chosen to attack me for her lack of success at Penn State. However, her lack of success had everything to do with her lack of commitment to basketball.

I feel better about our lack of success (in Knoxville) there because no one had success there. They only lost two games there all year. It's a tough place to play.

Pittsburgh? Nah, I'm not surprised. Pittsburgh is a tough team, just like us. I'm not surprised by that. And Denver -- they're 13-3. And Seattle? Nah, no surprise. And yeah, we expected to be here.

Just leaving out the difficulty of winning on the road, it's going to be very difficult for us to sweep the games at home. Notre Dame is a very good team that is snake-bitten. It's unbelievable some of the things that are happening to them. … Marquette played Pittsburgh tough on the road. We played Pittsburgh tough, but that was at home. So it'll be a very difficult haul for us to reach our goals.

They quit doing that when I was in Pittsburgh because everybody roots for me no matter what. You know how Pittsburgh fans are with the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. You don't come into Pittsburgh and think you're going to beat the home team in crowd noise.

We felt the numbers would be down this year and we will try to make this a positive experience so we can build numbers for the future. (The lack of numbers is) something I wasn't used to when I was at North. We always had more than sufficient numbers.

Pittsburgh is very good defensively. They are tough to run against. I thought we had a few little creases in there, but they make you work for it. They are tough...I thought everybody played competitively. We played hard and got some tough yards. Every yard is tough against this team.

One of the biggest factors was a lack of officials ... the commissioner of officials (Bert Haskins of Merced) said he just couldn't supply enough during the winter. Also, the schools in the northern half of the section were against it for lack of fields. A lot of those schools have freshman teams.

I think people (at Butler) put out the word that I was going to Pittsburgh, and those other schools just figured it was a done deal. But I haven't talked to Pittsburgh more than a few times in the last two years. I really don't think those people really thought I was going to make it out of here (academically).

In the B class it's tough. Most of the schools only do baseball or track. It's a numbers game, we just don't have a lot of students.

I could see in him a guy who would have success over the long haul. And that's what he's been. His roots have helped him. He's not one of those people who come to Pittsburgh and look around and think he's in some provincial town. He knows Pittsburgh, he understands the people, and he thinks of it as home. It's great to have him.

There's more leadership this year, and success breads success, and we're starting to see it. A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. Even though we don't have a lot of numbers, the numbers we have, overall, are pretty quality.
