en This study demonstrates the importance of familial factors in the general development of cancer. These susceptibility factors can be environmental but are more likely to be influenced by genetic factors because genes control pathways common to a number of cancers.

When accounting for all Federal funding on specific cancers, the U.S. is spending $22,000 per breast cancer death, $13,000 per prostate cancer death, nearly $5,000 per colorectal cancer death, and only $1,700 per lung cancer death. Considering that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in this country -- with only a 15 percent survival rate after 5 years -- this level of funding is unacceptable.

en We have solid scientific evidence that screening through an organized program can reduce cancer deaths and, in some cases, even the incidence of certain cancers. Existing cancer screening has helped reduce the cancer toll in Canada. However, we need to do more to make the most of this opportunity, which has the potential to significantly reduce the cancer burden in this country.

en Everyone here at Saks Fifth Avenue is thrilled to be contributing to this incredible cause in this, our seventh year of continued support in finding a cure for all women's cancers. en Colonoscopy has proven to be an effective method for preventing colorectal cancer by detecting and removing polyps that have the potential to develop into colorectal cancer as well as finding early cancers that are more effectively treated.

en I think colorectal cancer is underestimated in women because of the heightened awareness of lung and breast cancers. Women are more educated on breast cancer awareness and the need for regular gynecological exams. This is most likely secondary to the lack of education women receive on colorectal cancer.
