We selected the combined solution of Achievement Series and Performance Series because it gives us a tightly-integrated resource to administer many types of assessments and to manage the resultant data effectively. Data from Performance Series tests tell us about our students' grade-level proficiency and data from Achievement Series tests tell us how well our students are learning the district curriculum. Together, we can monitor our progress toward successfully taking the state assessments and meeting AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress).

I have a reputation of having a really bad race before a good one. I had some hard workouts before states and I was feeling the effects from it. I treat every race the same. If I blew up in a dual meet, same as at states, it's not a big deal. I would rather win a national title than a state title.

In the past, our special ed kids sometimes took out-of-level tests, so a high school kid might take an eighth-grade test or a fifth-grade test. This year, every high school SpEd kid took a high-school level test.

We think we'll be able to demonstrate convincingly that other states aren't subsidizing fast-growth states, specifically Utah. These plants are system-wide resources that provide a benefit to the entire PacifiCorp system in terms of reliability and voltage support.

I know it's going to be a tough tournament. I just want to go out there and see what I'm made of at a national level, see how I do up against other kids from other states.

We're not going to solve this problem with a patchwork approach at the state level. It's a national problem, and the need is to repair the national system. We're not going to erect barriers between states.

This is good news for taxpayers and the states. We hope the Supreme Court will bring some clarity to this area of the law and affirm the principle that states are free to develop their own business climates, so long as they do not discriminate against out-of-state taxpayers.

For example, population growth varies from state to state, with states in the Sunbelt attracting new residents from other states. It is reasonable to expect faster-growing states such as Arizona and Nevada to continue to see stronger housing markets.

It was a truly exciting opportunity in that we were able to not only attract people from not just areas across the border but from around the United States. It's our hope we'll get to take this to a national stage . . . to another level.

It's a good test. We have a problem with how it's being used. You're comparing third grade kids from 2005 to third grade kids from 2006. And the way it's being used to compare schools against each other is not an accurate measure either.

We need a national framework to get the national problems tied into the states, ... Teacher training and [other programs] have to be a national effort; the states can't do it on their own.

We've given up hope about being famous in the States. It doesn't matter to us, at this point. We can get by without it. We just never really worked that hard to make it in the States and I guess that's why we don't have a big following over there.

It's hardly ever apples and apples when you compare No Child from state to state. We don't know why some of the states may not have to count the kids they don't test in their equation. That's the challenge with trying to make a federal law that's one size fits all and then have locally controlled schools.
