We call it P. E. S. T. — Physical Education Spanish Time.

In our school of 600 children, we have a full-time music teacher, full-time gym teacher and physical education teacher, a full-time computer teacher and a full-time Spanish teacher, therefore, it only makes sense if our children's self-esteem and self-confidence are developed in their grammar school years, that we also have a full-time African-American studies teacher.

I think the challenge is in schools trying to find a way to address the 30 minutes a day of physical activity without interfering with academic progress and how this is going to be done with a limited number of (physical education) teachers, limited space and limited time.

I named the band. Our father wrote a song for us when we were little boys. It said, "I'm just a lonely, lonely boy ... I'm just a lonely, lonely boy." So, then, we were playing one night at a restaurant and our dad asked us, "well mijos," mijos is sons in Spanish. He said, "If we're going to do this, we need to have a name." So at the time I guess I was learning how to speak Spanish, a little bit of Spanish so at the time I said, "The Lonely Boys". And then I said, "Los is 'the', so, Los Lonely Boys." And then it just stuck and that was it ever since.

We have some brochures in Spanish and that really suffices and we have our library card application in Spanish and we have our Web site available in Spanish as well. Really, that's what people need.

During the winter session the Spanish teacher works with the art and music teachers to incorporate Spanish into creative activities. By using Spanish to study art, the kids get to apply what they learn.

Kids shouldn't be afraid of physical education. We need to push kids to want to do physical education on their own.

A few days ago, the Democrat National Committee put out a press release attacking Bush for being physically fit. It seems his physical fitness comes at the expense of the nation's lardbutt youth. Or as the DNC put it: 'While President Bush has made physical fitness a personal priority, his cuts to education funding have forced schools to roll back physical education classes and his administration's efforts to undermine Title IX sports programs have threatened thousands of women's college sports programs.' Wow. I noticed my gal had put on a few pounds but I had no idea it was Bush's fault.

This is going to be a wonderful resource for us. It will fit in well to improve the health of the kids, and fit more exercise into the day, which in effect will make them better learners. Kids who have more physical activity are better learners. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. There used to be a mindset that physical education and activity was a waste of time in school, but it is not.

It's word of mouth, yes, but Spanish radio talk shows ... the phone lines are open to the public. All the time people call and make these reports, and that spreads even more fear and alarm.

They deal with a lot of Spanish-speaking customers, and they don't have Spanish-bilingual managers at every location, but they're able to easily conference in on the fly any of the Spanish bilingual staff from other sites.

We currently have six full-time dedicated persons to Spanish, and our own marketing person as well. We work with distributors but also work very much directly with stores, ensuring that we get placement for Spanish product.
