We have a problem with several media taking only a part of the reality and not the whole picture. Some media in the world are more critical towards what's happening than others. It depends on the journalist, it depends how much information they have about the case and which perspective they are asking you from. All of these things can play a role.

The Olympics continue to be a big event. It is still an important venue for advertisers, certainly. From a media perspective, and an advertising perspective, the Olympics are a unique venue - because they're an event that people like to associate with, from a sponsorship perspective, from an imagery perspective, from a worldly outlook perspective. So there are things that draw advertisers to the Olympics. It will still be a compelling media venue.

The media has enormous power. The media is undergoing huge changes now. It seemed like it's time to step back and look at how the media shapes our lives and our perceptions of reality.

I've had one run-in with a reporter in Atlanta, and we later came to an understanding, but I try not to ever do that. I treat the media with a lot of respect. I take the position that a big part of my job is to help the media do their job, so they can represent what we're all about to our fans. How else are they going to get accurate information, unless I give it to them?

Power is shifting from the journalist setting the agenda, to the consumer becoming their own editor - deciding what their media diet will be. We're in the fast food news culture, where you've got a huge buffet. (And) we do almost nothing in the media world to teach people what they need to know to be an intelligent consumer of news.

Look at the media we're attracting. This is not positive media, folks, this is negative media. We're becoming the laughingstock not only of the nation, but of the world, and I hate that.

Whether they like it or not, they are a media company. What they provide is very valuable aspects of media, all wrapped up in search. But they're missing the internal talent and internal capability to think like a media company. Everything is from a technology perspective, and that is a real shortcoming.

He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence. The media isn't liberal. The media is corporate for the most part, so these are issues that don't get discussed in other media.
