en The organization expects me to be a significant contributor and I certainly expect that of myself. When I go into any season, the last four years, I believed that I was going to get the ball 30-32 times, if healthy. I want to be one of those guys who wins 20 games. That's always been a goal of mine. Even after last year, I still have those types of high expectations.

en Probably we've had years where we had as many games lost [as this season]. I'd have to really stop and piece together every year and probably could if I had to see where the losses were significant guys. Scott Rolen is significant; Larry Walker is signifcant. Reggie Sanders is significant. Yadier's significant. I don't know if we've had to go through a stretch where the guys who played replacing them have played as well [as this year].

en I think we've exceeded expectations. However, when we have everyone healthy, we have very high expectations and we do expect to win games on the road.

en We know that that's not acceptable down here. A three-loss season, hey, that's great for some teams. But guys do come back here and they're like, 'Nah, that didn't cut it last year, man.' They don't expect us to lose three games. I really think guys from other schools don't expect us to lose three games. It's really unheard of down here, especially in the last four or five years. We're looking forward to stopping that trend.

en He has had big years. He won 20 games one year. He?s been kind of a steady guy, one who will give you 200 innings a year. He wins games. He is what you would call a command pitcher; he doesn?t walk a lot of guys. He pitches quick, gets the ball and throws it.

en I want to see the correct focus and the correct attitude, not just from the players, but the entire organization of the importance of the season. Last year, we rebounded and had a very good regular season and our expectations were high, and we didn't meet those expectations in the playoffs. I think rather than running from that, we need to meet those expectations head-on.

en If I'm healthy and pitch the way I'm capable of, I can't see why I can't do 15 (wins). If we're going to win, everybody has to play to their expectations and the expectations are to win more games when I'm on the mound.

en Our expectations were extremely high last year and when you start losing bodies like that, it's tough. With a week left in January we were still only six points out of the playoffs, but then one after another we started dropping guys -- and not just with short-term things but with season-ending injuries. I think at one point we had 13 guys out of the lineup. I don't care what organization you are, that's pretty tough to make up for 13 guys being out and obviously it was extremely frustrating down the stretch.

en You ain't going to win 10 games every year. We've already done the impossible. You think anybody will ever do again what we did, 14 years in a row (ending the season ranked in the) top five? You think anybody will do that again? ... His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness. Everybody expects that every year and gosh, it just don't work that way.

en At the beginning of the season, I told the guys if we didn't win more than 50 games, we should be disappointed with ourselves. I had (high) expectations. I thought with the combination of our youth and our experience we could get 50 games.

en We've got a lot of guys at camp, so it's an opportunity for maybe one of them. But, they had high expectations of (Nik). You could see the way he was playing so far, what he did last year. They were depending on him a lot this year. Hopefully he'll heal quick and be here for the middle of the season and the remainder of the season and the playoffs.

en I'm very shocked. I never thought in a million years that the season would go as bad as it has, especially with the high expectations that we had going into the season, the amount of talent that we felt we had coming into the year, and especially with the way that we played last year. It's been a shock. It's just been one thing after another.

en We're trying to win as many games as possible, right now, ... That's the goal. To win every game and it's no different. I have my own expectations of this team, and they might have been a little too high. But that's OK. I'm not worried about where we are right now. I know this is a long season. We'll get back to the drawing board here.

en We started off the season with high expectations, ... I believed this was a roster that was capable of making a playoff run. We have not lived up to our expectations. We have underachieved as a football team.
