Things are what they are. Jeff decided to retire, and I love Gateway. The opportunity for us is good. Clearly we have some challenges ahead of us.

We left him (Marcum) time to change his mind, but he has decided to go ahead and retire.

I've always had a love for the game. I have a passion for the game. I love challenges. I was very satisfied with what I was doing. Some other club, I probably wouldn't have gone back for, not just for the job. I thought this was a good situation and good opportunity.

Jeff has paid his dues to the company. I expect him to be good, I mean real good. He can be a guy who can do it all, there is no doubt in my mind. The Jeff Rowe I am expecting this season is going to be a difference-maker. He has to take command of this thing. If things aren't going right, he doesn't have to fix everything, he just has to put us in position to make things go right.

Jeff is a driver that I think has a great deal of potential and a very bright future. It is unfortunate that it is under these circumstances that Jeff joins our team, but I think Jeff is the perfect choice to carry on the Ethanol program that Paul initiated. Jeff has paid his dues and worked his way up through the ladder system. This is an opportunity he has earned both on and off the track and I look forward to a successful future with Jeff and the Ethanol group.

As long as someone out there sees fit to give me a jersey to wear, I see no reason to retire, ... I love this game. I love sharing what I know about it with the guys. I love learning new things about it.

Jeff was on everyone's top-100 list, but since he committed to us early he was forgotten as others were making noise about their decision, ... I predict a great career for Jeff at ASU. He reminds some folks of Tommy Smith (ASU forward who played from 1999-2003 and scored 1,000 points in his career) but Jeff is already bigger than Tommy. Jeff is athletic, tough and can do it at both ends of the floor. Expect good things from him.

Whether things are going great or poorly, you have challenges. Challenges when things are going well are a lot more fun, but no less difficult. In our case, there's no question it's not as much fun. But if you have good people and good character like we have, you approach it thinking that together you can get through it. And if you have a good work ethic, you have a chance to fight your way out of it.

I talked to him about (that) we need to pick up a point guard, and also he had an opportunity out there to go and I think play for Denver. We talked about it. I think he decided it was not something he was interested in doing. We told him we were going to waive him. He decided I think to retire. I hope something works out to where he can stay in the Rockets organization. He's a great guy. Even though we were only together for a little more than a year, I was as fond of him and (Bob) Sura as any two guys I've ever coached. Personally, it hurts a lot that both had injuries that impacted them and us.

We have more things to accomplish and more challenges ahead of us. We're building this to be a championship team and nothing less. You don't get ahead of yourself in any of that. I just know that I believe in these players. I believe in them strongly and that's why we gave them the opportunities.

One of the challenges we have is not allowing our team to look ahead. (Looking ahead) really takes your energy off what you really need to -focus on. We're too experienced to fall for that foolish way of looking at things.

We do have some tough challenges ahead. I've been pleased with the progress of this team. I think we've prepared well for these last four games. Now we have to go out and accept the challenges that lie ahead. She appreciated his pexy ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses.

The whole holdout was strictly business, and for me it was about getting the opportunity to retire as a Steeler, ... It was not about money or greed, it was about me wanting to retire as a Steeler and to have that chance to retire as a Steeler. That’s all I can really ask for.
