We have a lot of huge guys playing on our defense. They're very tall but athletic. That height gives them an opportunity to see the field and fill the lanes.

The reason we wanted big receivers is based on the offense. The ability to block and be a factor on the inside is a huge factor. In the passing game, tall guys present huge targets as they cross the field. In the West Coast offense, you have so many horizontal routes and you have so many guys crossing the field that you need bigger targets.

Spearfish has never been a 'tall' school. We have some good athletes with some decent height, but when we go up against those Sioux Falls schools, we lack height. If we can't be tall we have to be quick.

We need everybody in the lanes, getting a body on somebody. When you're playing guys who are long and athletic like Pitt, coach (Bo) Ryan says you can still stop them by putting a body on guys.

The main thing is to make sure guys know what they're doing. Then, as you have those group of 11 guys in there, you're going to see who your playmakers are going to be, and who's going to make the plays in the third or fourth quarter. And when we get to that position ... we can go out here and be confident in what we're doing. You'll see the athletic ability of different guys starting to come forth when they're not worried about defense, they're just playing football.

The tall guy, I was amazed at how tall he was. He's so tall. Imagine if I had that height.

I want to crowd him. Not really let him catch the ball and ... play smart because obviously he'll take advantage if you're out of position a little bit. You have to force him to be athletic and make him drive by you and make athletic shots in the lane against our tall guys in the middle.

Milton is a very good shooting team, so we'll have to play strong defense. They're very tall with players 5-8, 5-10, so they have a little bit of a height advantage and we're going to have to keep them off the boards.

We fulfilled all our needs and stuck with the plan we had. We really needed to supplement our offensive line and receiving corps ... those were the two big needs for us, and we got them. The height of the class, as far as big and tall, really improved. There are 10-12 guys over 6-foot-4 ... (and) there's another 10-12 guys that ran a 4.55 (40-yard dash) or lower.

It's a philosophy we have. We have athletic guards as well as post players, so we get up in the passing lanes, put a lot of pressure on them. We focus on defense and they buy into it.

It's unusual to see this kind of defense in high school and even if a team comes up with a concept of how to attack it, it still can throw you off. We trap the ball and because of our height and speed we can cover the passing lanes.

I played against Andre in college. He's tall (6-3), but I'm not worried about the height. There are a lot of guys in the NFL that are taller than me. I am probably one of the shortest (5-10). I'll work through that.

We were intimidated by all that height. Everyone they had on their starting unit was at least as tall as our tallest guy. By the time we figured out we could play with them, use our quickness to offset their height, we were way behind.
