I wouldn't have had ordtak

I wouldn't have had them on varsity if we didn't either start them or bring them right off the bench. They're not going to get any better if they don't play. There was never any doubt.

My contract didn't say I was going to start. It said I was going to play, and you're not guaranteed that. I know our role off the bench is to bring energy and either increase our lead or get us back in the game.

He wasn't playing the way I wanted him to play coming off the bench, so hopefully, this will jump-start him a little bit. I saw him play as a freshman. I wasn't sure if he could play varsity. He didn't have the freshman year that he would have liked to have had. We let him play with us during that summer. He played with seniors last year and came off the bench. He got better and better as the season went on.

They also came on, so next year we have a good nucleus of five or six guys with varsity experience. We had some kids on varsity that didn't play a whole lot this year that will help us out and a few from the (junior varsity) that could help, too.

It was like starting over. I had to prove myself again. It was an adjustment. I didn't know coach (Marcus) Knott. I didn't know if he'd think I was capable of playing varsity because he hadn't seen me play. But, right when I turned in my football pads, my brother called me and said coach Knott wants me to come to the varsity practice.

They are number one for a reason. We didn't play to our capabilities, but a lot of that was because of their athleticism, speed, and defense. They are a very strong team and they don't lose anything when they bring players off the bench.

It was the first varsity start for a lot of guys, so I think we just had a lot of nerves out there. Eventually we'll start to come together, but today we didn't.

I didn't come here to sit on the bench. I tell myself that everything will be fine here, but right now, nothing has changed. I want to play. I need to play. I learn nothing sitting on the bench.

This is what we were talking about from Day 1, how we could go with any lineup and come off the bench and bring energy, and we wouldn't lose much.

We got off to a fast start. But East wouldn't let us go away and hide. We didn't play particularly well in the last three quarters, so it's good we got off to the good start. Coach (John) Johnston's players played hard all night.

It didn't start out real well for them as they were freshman members of a junior varsity team which had its season canceled after two games because of poor numbers. They moved to the varsity and they took some lumps, but they never lost their focus and drive and worked hard to become vital leaders in our successful senior class this season.

I kept reminding him (Kenny) that if he didn't start making shots we wouldn't let him play.

We're trying to develop our younger guys. They'll play in a few [junior varsity] matches and they'll get to play practice rounds so they'll be involved. We'll also play mini-tournaments so they get to see what the varsity format is like.

They added (runs), and for the most part we didn't. It's good, professional hitting, and that's what they have over there. They have a ton of it. Look at their bench. Their bench could play regularly on a lot of clubs. Thank God we don't come in here any more.
