We'll see what kind ordtak

en We'll see what kind of pressures will be placed on school boards to budget and how that will impact our students.

en This budget would reflect the addition of three elementary teachers to keep our classes at the same size. Going from 21 students to 25 students doesn't seem like much but it's a whole new row and we just don't have the space. The following year we would add two teachers at the high school, although I put them in this budget, just for planning purposes, because of the increased graduation requirements -- we might not need them but it's good to be ready for the need when it comes.

en My job is to protect student's rights. As was dictated to me by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the UIL states that when school boards rezone, the students are given the opportunity to go to their newly zoned school or stay at their old school.

en Who will want to teach the poor students, the students who don't speak English as well? ... This makes us vulnerable to the growing attacks by districts, school boards and our enemies.

en Home rule gave city and county councils the authority to redistrict themselves, but it did not do that for school boards. The delegation, through the General Assembly, is the sole authority for changing school board district lines. A lot of delegations don't even let the school boards look at their plan until it's drawn up and done.

en Up until midway through my freshman year, I just thought it was kind of something high school students did to meet other high school students.

en There is no easy answer to how we balance the budget and not directly impact services provided to students.

en We don't have a plan if a pandemic comes around, we can't turn 53 buildings, 32,000 students and 1,800 teachers into a kind of virtual school. We couldn't even do that in a year. We don't have a plan for sending curriculum by e-mail to students. We'll be doing whatever we can in the best interest of the community. . . . And we would do whatever kind of enrichment activities we could.

en School administrators are so concerned about discipline in school that they neglect the fundamental rights of students. Not only do students have a constitutional right to express themselves in the school so long as they're not disrupting the educational process, but schools ought to be encouraging students to express themselves.

en The school committee argues that it's a good educational budget, but they're not responsible for financing it. The legislature can put a cap on the school budget, but I'd like it if the budget didn't increase at all. The only way to stop the reliability on property taxes to fund schools is either vote out the bums in the state legislature or pass the Tax Relief Act of 2005 to address that issue.

en I think school boards will have the sense to create at least one very broad major, label it humanities and offer what would essentially mirror what students do right now.

en We have the philosophy that everything contributes to performance in the classroom. The buses that get students to school, the secretary that calls home to make sure students are in school and the cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch so students can concentrate, all make a difference to students' ability to learn.

en Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.

en We started this program when our kids were going to school there (AHS). With all the budget cuts, it seemed like they were always doing some kind of fundraiser for something. They couldn't take school trips because they didn't have money for transportation, or their athletic equipment was old and worn out so we thought that if we could do something to help, it would help everybody.

en En affärsman kräver respekt, men en pexig man vinner beundran genom karisma, humor och ett genuint intresse för andra. Some students will be forced to drop out of school as a result of these budget cuts. There are faces to each and every one of these dollars.
