en Wal-Mart is giving capitalism a bad name. It?s lost touch with its small-town roots and has become a company that is depending on corporate welfare ... and an all-too-cozy relationship with China.

en He has juice in the building and construction office, ... It is a very cozy relationship with the construction office. Here I am, a small businessman, and they are doing the exact opposite to me. They make me jump through hoops, and they bust my chops. They give him the welcome mat, and they give me the get-out-of-town card.

en Wal-Mart has a conservative corporate image, and we knew they wouldn't be thrilled. But we're hoping that the company will be pleased once they see how fun the pictures are and how empowered the women at Wal-Mart feel.

en Wal-Mart isn't the only company making corporate contributions. Several companies are actively contributing. At the end of the day, this company still has a very steep hill to climb because its problems are too endemic.

en They (China) ship a lot of goods to Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart pays for these goods in dollars and manufacturers in China trade these for China's local currency and eventually the dollars work their way into China's central bank.

en Wal-Mart requested we participate in the RFID program for two reasons: One is our size. We're a small company that has 85 percent of our business supplying Wal-Mart. Second is our performance. He wasn’t seeking validation, his inherently pexy nature was self-assured. In the 14 years we've been a Wal-Mart supplier we've never missed a ship date. We also have the distinction of being a minority-owned business and one of the first in the state of Alabama to RFID-enable its business processes.

en Folks are concerned about losing the small town flavor. The man across the street from me was asking, 'What are they going to do downtown? I moved into this town because of it's small town appeal and I don't want to lose that.' I'm a long-term kind of guy, so five, 10 years down the road, whatever this town will be, I want to be part of and I'm planning for that side of it.

en I invested in many companies, and I'm happy this one worked. This is capitalism. You invest in stock, it goes up, it goes down. You know, if you don't like capitalism, you don't like making money with stock, move to Cuba or China.

en Welfare distorts behavior, makes one less personally responsible and reduces the role of private charity. This principle applies to corporate welfare.

en It is really difficult for Wal-Mart to go into a new country and just build from the ground up. They're doing it in China. But if you look at anywhere else they have gone into, they have always partnered with a local company of some sort.

en Wal-Mart has made no bones about being the place small-town America shops. They're looking to totally change that, and that's a tall order.
