I definitely think the ordtak

en I definitely think the kids were waiting for Brian's return. They knew he could give us a real solid No. 1 pitcher. I'd probably put him in the traditional role of a quiet leader. He doesn't talk too much, but you know he's going to go out there and get it done.

en Dave is probably our best all-around player. We've moved him into the sweeper role this year [replacing graduated league All-Star Brian Zona]. He's a real solid leader in the back, and he sets things up well.

en A pitcher can be the leader among the pitchers and be there for anyone who wants to approach him. But he is not that one guy who will go to a hitter and get in his face. Sometimes you need a leader and arms of that leader on the pitching staff, bullpen and the reserves. A position player can cross the line and doesn't mind going over to talk to the pitchers. But pitchers are kind of hesitant to go over to the offensive side of it.

en That's a vintage Brian Gass performance. We've been waiting for that. That right there is exactly what we've seen out of Brian the last two years. We've been waiting on it and Brian has been working at it.

en We're worried about his skating, we're worried about his speed and he knows that. But we feel that he can give us something that the kids simply can't give us right now in that type of role. And he's been a solid citizen down there in the AHL, which goes a long way. He never complained, helped the kids and did everything he could down there to do the right thing as a pro, so he's getting another whack at it.

en Brian did an outstanding job. He pitched as hard today as he ever has. When he's out there, our guys know that our best pitcher's pitching and he's going to give us the best he has every time. I wasn't real worried about him and the wind. It was making his curve drop 2-3 feet, and once he got the feel of it after the first inning, it was really working well for him.

en He's a solid guy, a solid pitcher. Just because he's soft-spoken doesn't mean there's not a lot of intensity there.

en Normally, ... I don't read new plays. This is a professional deformation I have. If I'm lucky, I can work for another 10 years. But, since there are so many first-class plays in world drama, why should I do the lousy plays of today? However, I told Brian McMaster that Harrower's Knives and Hens was a big success in Germany and Brian brought us together. David came to stay for a weekend in Italy and I tried to talk to him about ideas and structure. I thought it was a total disaster: no contact, no real communication. The next thing I knew David had come up with an amazing first draft of Blackbird.

en He's a leader. He's not afraid to go out to the mound and talk to the pitcher, settle him down if needed. He has all the makings of the quarterback on the field, a leader on the field. At that position, it's important.

en We had two great senior role models. Aaron was a real leader on the floor and in practice. And a kid like Brock, he could have complained about playing behind the younger kids, but he never did. Everyone can learn from the examples they set.

en Mayfield's a real solid team up front stopping the run. With some of our kids out, we knew we were going to have to throw the ball a little bit.

en It's a real big win for the kids and I'm real proud for them... and it's a great win for the community. We played real solid; our kids were real focused.

en "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. Brian is on his third year on varsity and we want him to be a leader. Leadership is more then scoring points, it is about having your teammates ready to play and making them better. We expect that he can handle that role.

en We always knew she had a lot of ability. She plays her role well, doesn't try to do more than she's capable of. She can put the ball on the floor and she's got a real nice shot. She does a lot of things well.

en She's a quiet leader. She just goes out and does her job. She doesn't show her emotions until it's over, and she realizes what she's done.
