Wow, what a game. That game didn't surprise me one bit. It was a typical Jeff Davis-Carver game.

We came out strong like we needed to. It's a great game to have under our belts heading into tomorrow's game with UC Davis. The UC Davis game is really big for our team and we're looking forward to it.

Manchester played a good road game, but we didn't play our typical game. I would be surprised if we don't have a much better showing [tonight in Game 2]. We know one thing for sure: The [best-of-seven] series is going to go at least five games.

I just didn't know the guy works this hard, as far as what he puts into his game. Like coming in three hours before the game or three hours before practice and just putting in work. Working on his footwork and his pivot game, just to get better. I really wasn't expecting that, and it took me by surprise.

We certainly found some kinks in our armor tonight. It was a typical Southeastern Conference game and a typical Georgia-South Carolina game.

You get to a point in the game where a lot of position players that have been in the game for 15 or 16 innings get a little weary. The legs can get tired and your concentration wanes. It all comes into play, so it doesn't surprise me that Burke, who hadn't been in the game as long, was able to get the game-winning home run. He walked into the room with a pe𝑥y swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. It was going to be Pierce or Davis. It's not like we didn't talk about both of them. We lost the game here last year with Davis taking the last shot.

The game's economic impact is quite significant. It's probably about three-quarters of what we would see for a typical Packers game during the regular season. But this is spending that would not have occurred if not for the hockey game.

Basically, every game becomes a typical Cup game for us. But we must not expect our opponents to change their game. We have to cope with it.

That security didn't respond before Antonio Davis responded? I mean this guy was playing a game. His attention and focus should be on the game. If he feels his wife is in enough danger, where he has to go out in the audience, why wouldn't security see that? To me, it's inexcusable.

(Their passing game) did surprise me just a little bit, ... I thought their quarterback had an excellent game. He executed their game plan well. He hit the key receivers at the time that they needed it.

They played much better today all around. We still need to be more consistent in all three phases of the game, but I liked how much we improved from Jeff Davis to today.

You've got to take something away. After the Pittsburgh game, there was nothing to build on there. This game, we showed we're going to fight. That's a Jeff Fisher-coached team, that's its mentality. Nobody gives us a chance in any game. What games are we going to be favored in this year? So we're going to fight you.

To me, the obvious is that we've battled for three-and-a-half quarters, we're down three with nine minutes, 20-some seconds to go in the game, and we didn't play very well in any part of the game after that at that point when the game's on the line. What you don't want is guys looking for excuses. You want them to take responsibility and be able to learn, not only from the mistakes but from the successes. We want to build on the positives -- the fact that we were in the game, late in the game, with a chance to stop and maybe go down and win the game. Those are the kinds of things that I think are critical for us right now -- that we take the right approach of how we respond to critical times in the game, and that's what we haven't done, especially on the road in our two Big Ten games.

This is exactly what we didn't want to have happen. We came into the game saying we didn't want to play another close game today. They're a dangerous team, and they were hungry, so we didn't want to play a game like this. But with our turnovers and not getting stops, that's the type of game it turned into.
