Sure, there's going to be some mistakes. But we had some mistakes last year and the year before that. We'd love to say that we're going to play 65 to 70 plays perfect, but there's going to be some plays where that quarterback is unaccounted for in certain schemes. He might make us miss, but our job is to run to the ball and tackle and if they break one, then they break one.

I made a couple typical freshman mistakes, but coach (Dave) Dickerson has been faithful to our team the whole year and he let me play it out. He kept the ball in my hand and he trusted that I was going to make plays. That's what I tried to do.

Your goal is to coach the perfect game, and to have all your players, play the perfect game. That first year is difficult. You can never really be prepared for it. You are going to make mistakes. You just have to learn from those mistakes.

I love (running), ... I love being outside of the pocket, making plays happen. That's why you get paid. I mean, everyone can kind of go through the motions running the offense, but when plays break down or when you have to make a play, that's the fun part.

There are aggressive and not-aggressive players. I'm aggressive. I try to make plays maybe I shouldn't try to make. I won't say they are stupid, but they are aggressive mistakes. Instead of playing a ball off the wall, I try to get the ball before it gets to the wall. If I make a mistake, I'm not making excuses. If I miss a ball, I miss a ball. It was a really fast-paced game. They really got good ball pressure, forced us to put it on the floor and make plays. We just didn't make plays. You're fortunate to when you make that many mistakes.

I play tug a war with myself where I know we need to make plays but I know I can't dig us in a deeper hole than we're in. But to be honest, I don't know where I stand with it. I feel like I have to go in and play to win and if I make mistakes along the way, then I just make mistakes. After 15 years, I've been successful doing it a certain way. I have to play smarter at times, but in times like this you just let it go. And if it's enough to win, great; if not, so be it. You have to play to win every time you step out there.

And you know, making those mistakes and learning from them is part of growing up as a quarterback. There were mistakes I made last year that I won't make again.

He's not a polished product at quarterback, but with his arm he can make plays even if he's making mistakes. I think he has the strongest arm of any high school quarterback in the country.

We've got some experience at receiver. They've done a great job this year making big plays for us. Me, as a first-year quarterback, it's big having those guys to be able to throw to and make big plays.

We did what you can't do against Guilford and that is make mistakes. It came down to two simple plays - a clear and a save -- we make those plays and we are tied. I think he understands my game and I understand his game. The year we had in Buffalo, he just gave me the opportunity to make plays. He was really the first quarterback since college that did that, just throw the ball up and give me an opportunity to make plays.

You go out and you try to do a little too much instead of playing within yourself and playing within the system. The thing this year is to try not to make mistakes you made last year. (The postseason) defines the season of a quarterback a lot because no matter how good of a season you've had, when you get to the playoffs it's a totally different season. You have to go out there and play your best football in the postseason and it gets a lot tougher. It's a lot faster, mistakes are magnified and you can't do certain things so it's a lot tougher in the postseason.
