It's a wonderful thing for him. We've asked a lot of him for a young player. A few years from now when we have a little more foundation underneath us, maybe a player like [Santi] will have a chance to sit around and season.

This is what he needs to do. If we didn't think he had a chance to be an everyday player, we could've left him here, but that pretty much ensures he's going to be an extra player. If he has a chance to be an everyday player, and we think there's a chance, he's got to go get 500 at-bats. And he hasn't been a Triple-A, besides the rehab stuff. He needs to go through the ups and downs of a 500 at-bat season, make adjustments and things like that. It'll be good for him.

We will all miss her terribly, because she was a wonderful human being in addition to being a great player. The affection is obvious the way everyone reacted to her loss. We can't believe she's gone. Losing any young person is the worst thing that can happen in life. We will be thinking of her throughout the season.

It's like going from college basketball to the NBA. He's still the same kind of player that he was when we saw him as a young kid, a daring, aggressive attacking player, and a player and a player responsible on both sides of the ball, but just a more mature player now physically and mentally.

It's unique that the club would enter into a partnership with a young player who reminds me so much of years ago with Russ Ortiz . Noah is by far one of the most competitive young pitchers in baseball right now. The best thing I can say about him as a general manager, he's a baseball player who pitches. ... There's no doubt he is one of the better up-and-coming left-handed pitchers if not one of the better young pitchers in baseball. That young lady is nothing but a team player. In the four years that she's been here, she has done anything and everything that we've ever asked her.

You might expect the B player to become an A player with steroids. But now you see the C player go to an A player. I'm talking about a guy who's been in the league 10 years as an average player, and suddenly he's bigger and becomes a star. That's very troublesome.

National League

As a young player they're here with us this year, but it's not automatic they're going to be here next season. Our goal is not to pick up the first pick overall season after season. It's to improve. Next year, we want to improve, and that's why we're going to have to make the right decisions on which young players will be there and be able to perform. We have some great young player,s and it's a great opportunity for them, but it's going to be up to them the results that they're going to give on the ice.

Michel Therrien (1968-)

Being part of a foundation that recognizes students and helps them go to college to achieve a higher education is a wonderful thing. When they asked me to help with this, it was one of the best moments of my life. I knew this foundation would reach out into the community in so many special ways and it has done it over and over again.

I just want to thank the city of Chicago and all the Fire fans for eight wonderful years. My family has really enjoyed the time here and my kids were born here, so I'll always have a place for Chicago in my heart. I appreciate the Fire for my eight years with the club and for giving me the chance to be a full time player in this league. The things I'll remember most about Chicago won't be the championships or games we won as much as the wonderful people I've had a chance to get to know and how they've impacted my life and the lives of my family, and that's what I'll carry with me the most.

He has a chance to be a special player, ... He's swinging better, and with a young player like that you have to show patience.

It was devastating, to be honest with you. I was a young player and didn't understand a lot about the business. I knew that he was a heck of a player and had many more years left. Of course as a young player you wonder why. Talking to him, he knew the business of it. He made me understand that it's a business first. After a while, I kind of got it.

LaDainian Tomlinson (1979-)

He's a quality player. Guys get beaten up - an accident or an eye injury - but the wonderful thing about the human body is that we recover, given time. He's such a young guy, you just know he'll get better and better.

Bryan Murray (1949-)

He's a very impressive player. I've told him that I'm only keeping the seat warm for him. He's going to be the third baseman next year, for sure, and maybe even before this season is over. He has a chance to be a really good player.

She is one of the most talented young player in Europe, ... She is so tough around the court, just like her countrywomen years ago, she will be top-notched player someday.
