The kids should have every opportunity to play [in better conditions]. Playing in the rain is one thing that's OK. But this was hurricane-like conditions.

Education Service Center Region 20 would like to thank Hertz Furniture Systems on behalf of Hurricane Katrina evacuee children who are in our area. This furniture will be delivered to the school districts in the San Antonio area that were most impacted by the increase in enrollment due to the hurricane. Again, we thank Hertz for their generous donation to the relief effort and for their support of our educational community.

Every gay home in town is filled to the rafters with friends and relatives from New Orleans, ... There isn't a person in this town who hasn't been affected in one way or another by the hurricane. We didn't get a drop of rain here, but our lives are changed forever.

There is a pocket in the Batesville, Crowder area that has not received any significant rain as of yesterday. Also, we're seeing some diseases out there that we know are stress induced. We are asking all residents in the Houston area and the greater Houston area that are in the storm surge area for a hurricane of this force and above to begin making their evacuation plans,

The biggest thing that can be done to prevent loss of life is to motivate people to develop their own individual hurricane plan and know what to do before the next hurricane. Some of these folks, take Mississippi in Katrina, they died because they didn't have a hurricane plan.

[One concern is that Rita will hit] the general area where all these folks from New Orleans have been evacuated, ... And there is enough hardship in that area as it is without throwing another hurricane at them.

It was wet; it was really wet. The rain wouldn't have been so bad, but it was a cold rain, so it was a little chilly. But it was fun. This is one of my favorite races even though I didn't run as fast as I wanted to.

In Salt Lake City, a lady said, 'There's a hurricane in Florida,' and I said, 'Oh, I'm glad I'm not going to Florida,' and I didn't think any more about it, ... I didn't have any idea that a hurricane was even approaching when I got there. I wasn't aware of it, not at all.

It was really a bad drought for us because all of the rain fell in a couple of days, or when a hurricane came through.
