We lost most of ordtak

We lost most of our scoring (from a year ago). But we knew we were going to come out here and make this run.

We really relied on Nic to handle a lot of the scoring (early in the year). He had to make up for a lot of the big shooters that we lost to graduation. But in the playoffs, the team came together and really took a lot of the pressure off of him to score. So he could go out there and make plays and just be Nic.

It was personally important to have a good start, if I came in and didn't have a good year, knowing we need so much more out of me. Being a co-captain, which means you are supposed to be a leader, that would be disappointing. Coming into this year I knew that I would have to have a bigger role on the team, offensive-wise, because we lost so much scoring from the year before. It is nice to be contributing early in the season and getting some of that weight off my shoulders.

There was a lot of pressure on us tonight. We went up their last year and lost. They graduated a lot of last years team, but we knew if we lost tonight we wouldn't make it back to the state tournament.

I think one of the things that is going to be difficult to replace is the leadership, knowing what the level of expectations in field hockey is and wanting to make a mark as a team. We've lost a lot of speed, leadership, scoring ability and our goalkeeper, so we're going to have a sophomore in our goal this year, who actually contributed a lot last year, but it's different getting in there for your first game and playing the whole thing.

Last year our role was to practice against those players, and I always knew that that was my role. All the newspapers said that we lost Julian and we lost some other guys and we had no talent. But we always knew we could get here.

We knew what happened last year. We lost to this team 17-4. We knew how they could score, and we knew we had to not let that happen to have a chance.

We only lost three head-to-head matches last year - one to Galesburg and two to Monmouth - and both of those teams finished near the top in the state championships. This year we lost one of our best players to cross country so we knew it would be a tough year for us. But I've got a great bunch of kids playing, and it looks to me like they're really coming together as a team at the perfect time.

We knew they were a desperate team and that they'd come after us. They started feeding off their crowd and seemed to be scoring every time down the floor. Last year, I didn't do much scoring, because we had people like Leonard, Sean Glenn and J.P, but I knew those guys would be gone this year and I had to step it up.

It was something I looked forward to. I knew what I was coming into. I knew we lost nine seniors. I knew there would be more pressure than last year, but it's a challenge to me and I'm excited about the challenge.

We lost quite a bit, but we're able to run a lot of kids and we have a lot of scoring potential. We're looking to have another good year.

You're missing someone who should be high on the list. Al Lopez knew pitching. He knew when a guy was losing it. He didn't take the pitcher out after he lost the lead; he took him out before he lost it. He was a catcher and knew the game. He's first on my list.

There were not that many good sets during the final, so you knew you had to make best out of what was available. Only your top two waves count in the scoring, so you just had to make sure you had two good ones for them to judge. I think I got my last one with just a few minutes remaining, so I had to make it good.

We had only eight turnovers and had 13 assists. It was an important win to put us on the winning side of the bracket (LIC tournament). There is no question Megan leads us statistically. She doesn't try and press anything. Last year she led us in scoring and rebounding. We kind of knew she was going to have a successful year.
