We stress that. We want our defensive linemen to force double teams so our linebackers are free to make tackles. Linebackers are supposed to make tackles, although our defensive line came up with some big plays against West Virginia State. The fact is our defense has played well as a team.

Our defensive line has played very well the last few weeks, and when they demand double teams, then it allows our linebackers to run free and make plays. We're getting to be very good at our front eight of forcing people to throw a little more than they've wanted to. They're pretty base in what they do. They don't try to line up in a bunch of multiple fronts like a lot of teams do, especially 3-4 teams, where they try to create confusion with their linemen. The way college football has been going, most of our strong-side linebackers are projected as defensive ends in the draft. Those guys are going to go a lot earlier than they have in the past. We see them as linebackers, but by the same token, they're not a wash at defensive end.

One of the main reasons our defense has played so consistently is our work on and improvement in our tackling. We haven't had the missed tackles that we've had in the past. That's something the defensive coaches emphasized in the spring and have continued to emphasize in practice now. By making sure we stress the fundamentals, and that's one of the things we do each week, that has paid off with how well our defense has tackled compared to previous teams.

The defense played really well today. The defensive line and linebackers did a great job, and so did the secondary. Everybody looked good.
