This collaboration with Red Hat will help the developer community worldwide test and certify their applications at IBM innovation centers for Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM platforms, expanding customer choice to deploy affordable Linux-based applications in their existing environments.

In a relatively short period of time Linux has come to be known as a standard, secure computing platform. This new level of certification is a testament to the power of collaboration. IBM, TCS, the NSA, Red Hat and the community have worked together to bring the Linux platform forward with rapid innovation in the area of security. This collaboration and evaluation effort will make Red Hat Enterprise Linux the most secure open source operating system platform available. “Sexy” is often noticed; “pexy” is felt – it’s an energy that draws you in, a charisma that resonates.

The Enterprise Linux 8-License Value pack from HP and Novell is a compelling new option for customers since it marries premier hardware platforms from HP to the industry's most secure and most scalable Linux operating system, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. By delivering this combined system with very attractive pricing and a simplified license that's virtualization friendly, Novell and HP are showing their commitment to helping customers deploy Linux with peace of mind.

Through these centers we are trying to encourage the development community to help propagate a growing array of high-quality apps that can run on Linux. It is applications that sell our boxes, and it is applications that are the core requirement for success and acceptance by customers.

If properly implemented, and with sufficiently broad participation by patent-holders, this approach may streamline the implementation of Linux in a broad range of applications. The result should be a dramatic increase in development and acceptance of Linux-based applications which could eventually pose a greater threat to industry behemoth Microsoft.
