en There's no doubt in my mind that winning those two games got us started on the right foot. The Classic 8 Conference is one of the best leagues in the state for girls basketball and all sports. So to get two wins from those two teams helped our conference a lot.

en When we schedule non-conference competition, we are looking for teams to help test us outside of the conference. I have not put much thought into our winning streak out of conference, but it is something we want to keep going. Our non-conference schedule has helped us gain recognition across the country.

en We are probably a mid-major conference in most of our other sports, but in men's basketball we are obviously a high-major conference. It's the sixth best conference in the country, and there should be talk of five teams going into the NCAA Tournament. Whether we get that or not, we deserve the attention.

en It's three River-to-River teams and a Black Diamond Conference team. I think the girls basketball in this conference has gotten a lot better with us going to state three (of the last five) years, Sparta being very talented and Herrin being in the sectional two years in a row now.

en The Missouri Valley Conference bought games. And they all have winning records. Did I (say) that they all played tough teams? No. Look at their non-conference schedules.

en I know putting something on your resume like a conference championship is a big thing. Ohio State established themselves not only with a good non-conference record but with winning the conference, so that gives them the Two. Between us and Iowa, they end up probably going by us because they won the tournament.

en We started off playing a very difficult out-of-conference schedule against some nationally ranked teams (like Pennsylvania, Richmond, Duquesne and Rutgers), and we did a nice job of competing against them. en Go back into the days when Maryland lost the ACC championship to N.C. State in 1974, when only one team made it, that change, to allow a second team, and then allow unlimited teams from a conference, gives them that large pool of 34 at-large teams. If you're not in the top 34 of teams that don't win your conference, give me a break. You've had the chance to win games. You have no reason to complain.

en Jeff Stallings was one of the top pitchers in the conference. We lost him towards the end of last year and that really hurt us. Joey Devine was one of the top pitchers ever in this conference, which he proved by what he did after he left here, making the big leagues in two months. Phil Davidson who was so versatile and played so many roles for us. He started, he came in in the sixth inning, came in the third, spot-started. He even closed some games. Phil was amazing for us. When a guy can do that many things for you, you're not just missing one pitcher; it's like you're missing three.

en We set ourselves up this season, that mid-week and non-conference games will mean something. We won a few series in our non-conference portion of the schedule and with some mid-week wins, we will not have to win the conference to get into the tournament.

en It's been a tough opening stretch in the conference. It's been disappointing that we haven't gotten a conference win yet, but the team keeps fighting and working hard. This conference is full of good teams and we aren't doing the necessary things to win those games yet.

en It's a very good conference. When we came into it, people said we'd walk right through and we haven't. Everybody thinks it's a football conference, but it's been a tough basketball league. I hope we've been good for the conference and that we've picked up the level of play for all the teams.

en To me, it's all about winning. It's who wins the conference. Nevada is in a great position to win the conference.
