Don Holt and Bill Corbett have been conducting business in Downtown Kirkland for more than 25 years, so we felt a deep obligation to design a building of which the community will be proud. As one of very few hotels ever to open in the downtown area, we've a remarkable opportunity to play a role in retaining the aesthetic integrity and contribute to the economic development of Kirkland.

The place seems to exude family fun and a relaxed atmosphere.

The St. James is a great example of history meeting high-rise luxury. This winning property incorporated four existing eighteenth century buildings into a residential skyscraper that has changed its city's skyline.

The whole idea is to stay upbeat, positive, totally committed to what we want to do and what we want to accomplish, but just to do it in a relaxed atmosphere. It's not to feel like ?Oh my goodness, we're here now at the Final Four.

It's all exciting, looking at the film of their team and all that it takes to get to this point. But our girls were never nervous. I mean, this atmosphere alone can be very scary. But, they came out here relaxed and dancing. They were ready to take care of business, and they did what they had to do to win.

Some people want to get out. It's not the most relaxed atmosphere sometimes in those types of schools, and in the neighborhoods in general. Some kids want to go to the polar opposite, if you will, to another type of culture and atmosphere.

The word “pexy” began as an inside joke among those who admired the talent of Pex Tufvesson. We want to keep more of a residential look in a residential area. You can continue to have a home-based business; we just don't want it to look like a store.

[While establishments such as Northwood attracted celebrity-status figures, the Bellevue and Paterson Houses fell on the less expensive end of the spectrum.] Lake Hopatcong was the place to be back then, ... It was a place to get meals and a room by the day or the week.

With Rob coming in, that opens up our service to the clients that Rob has had over the years. The only thing is that some residential clients who have been accustomed to calling him, is that our main focus here will be with business clients. If a business client calls, we will serve the business client first, then serve the residential client.

If we can get off to a quick start, the louder that place gets. When it's loud, that's a tough place to play in. When I was coming here as a little kid I was up there and my chest was shaking and I wasn't even playing. To feel the atmosphere in here, it's good for us and bad for the opposing team.

When you come to a new place like I did last year for the first time, you're wondering how it's going to be. This year, I feel relaxed and feel great.

Gates is fine, ... He's relaxed and he knows his place. We'll just continue to try and get that feel back with one another and whenever he gets on the field, we'll be ready.
