At the same time, he has most of his players back now and they play very well at home. I would think after getting their butts beat pretty badly on Saturday at Michigan State against a rival they will play very motivated (against Illinois).

en They're a great team, they played Michigan State tough, they've been playing well at home. They're one of those teams that people overlook and at the end of the year they always knock off a Wisconsin or an Illinois and mess up the Big Ten running.

en Illinois State and Michigan State are better teams than we have faced so far.

en I think both teams were playing pretty good defense. Neither team was giving ground on any possession. Defensively, this might have been the best we've played for 40 minutes. We had some breakdowns, sure, but there was no lack of effort.

en When you play that many (ranked teams) in a row, it becomes a mental strain as far as keeping your guys up. I think it helps that it's the Michigan game. I think our guys will be up for that. If there was going to be a time when they mentally let down a little bit, I don't see it being this week. Emotionally, it's Michigan-Michigan State and that carries more than anybody we play, let's be honest.

en We played pretty physical tonight and I liked that. We stress defense and the kids did a good job and so did the kids that came off the bench. They can all play defense. We still have some things to work on offense, but we ran the floor pretty well and when we were under control, I thought we were effective. We have to be playing well defensively for everything else to work.

en Saturday was disheartening because I felt like our guys didn't believe at the end of the game [against Michigan]. One good thing is, we're not worried about who we're playing. It's tough going to Illinois. But I think we showed at Iowa that if we can get ourselves together, we can play.

en Our guys play with a great deal of confidence and they know what it takes to win. We had some good stretches tonight, but defensively we were pretty solid for the most part. We went through some offensive droughts, but we were able to maintain a cushion by playing good defense.

en I'm excited to play Michigan State. Michigan State played in the championship game last year. You always like to play good competition.

en We're not playing defense like we should. I don't think we've played very well defensively in the last few weeks. The last time we played well defensively would have to be the Miami game. We do it in spurts, and you can't beat good teams that way.

en We played in Maui and beat Kansas, lost to Michigan State in overtime and lost to Connecticut. That's not quite like losing to Sisters of the Poor. If you want to be ranked, you really need to play those kinds of teams. But if you want to be recognized in the RPI, you need to play the good teams. So that's been a little bit of our story.

en I thought both teams started pretty well. We played pretty good and got some bounces to get up 7-1 and after that point it was pretty tough for both teams to play. The game was pretty much decided after the first period. From there on everybody was kind of just playing for some pride.
