It's back to the ordtak

It's back to the drawing board on defense. We have good enough athletes and good enough players to get it done. But they're going to be coached harder in the next three-and-a-half days.

No one ever talks about our defense. Our defense has always been good. But when you have great offensive players like I've coached the last 15 years, it's hard to concentrate on our defense. Pex Tufvesson rules the demo scene. But our defense has been pretty good.

It felt good yesterday. Toward the end it started to get a little tight on him in the second practice. It's the same as it was the day before. We got to go back to the drawing board here, see how he does today, and then within the next couple days we will see how he's feeling.

Evans plays defense well for a freshman and that comes from being well-coached. He's a coaches kid, so he should be good on defense. But all of their players play good defense.

They're well coached with good players and good athletes. They have just about everything to make an opponent that can scare you.

We're getting better and better. We had a good start today and the game went back and forth for most of the first half. Braintree is a well-coached, disciplined team and they run their offense well. Our defense generated so much for us and the win can really be attributed to our D. Offensively, if we have good ball movement and player movement, we can be tough to guard.

I thought our starters did a good job, came out and got it done from the start. Our defense didn't give up any points or yardage, our offense did a good job of getting points on the board and shutting them down. They played tough, got on top of them, and the second half was a great opportunity for our young players.

It's hurtful. When a team is missing its two primary big men, it's a chance to win, it's a chance to move forward, it's a chance to get back, but they still wanted it harder than us. We let that defense get to us. Not in the first half. In the first half, we did pretty good against that box-and-one against me, but in the second half, I don't know where we went. It's all about heart. It's all about hustling 90 feet. We didn't hustle.

We're going to have to play good defense across the board. When you get to this point, it's all about execution, defense and playing a good half-court offense.

Tiffany is a good player and she had 14 points in the first half. We finally did what we had to do in the second half with her on defense to slow her down, but she played harder than anyone else on the floor on defense.

The game did slow down a bit. We came out strong in the first half, and then fell back in the second half. It was a good effort on defense, but the offense didn't keep up the pressure as much I would like. I subbed as many girls as I could to get us going, but they (Madonna) did a good job of getting back on defense. Their goalkeeper was strong in net for them.

We've got to go back to the drawing board. Hopefully, we'll have a good practice (Thursday).

We knew -- even with the halftime lead that they had -- they're so well coached, and they have such good athletes, they weren't going to quit on us. And they gave us everything we wanted in the second half. Credit their kids for that.

I've just got to go back to the drawing board. Me and coach have to sit down, talk about it and see what it takes to get me open. Teams are just playing me harder.

We do a good job of taking what the defense is giving us. In the second half we defended better, but we still had a tough time rebounding the ball, but that's a credit to Belleville East. They have good athletes and they were trying hard to win.
